Wallace Delois Wattles was an American author. A New Thought writer, he remains personally somewhat obscure, but his writing has been widely quoted and remains in print in the New Thought and self-help movements. Wattles' best known work is a book called The Science of Getting Rich in which he explained how to become wealthy. He studied the writings of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Ralph Waldo Emerson and recommended the study of their books to his readers who wished to understand what he characterized as "the monistic theory of the cosmos".

Through his personal study and experimentation Wattles claimed to have discovered the truth of New Thought principles and put them into practice in his own life.

He wrote books outlining these principles and practices, giving them titles that described their content, such as Health Through New Thought and Fasting and The Science of Being Great. His daughter Florence recalled that "he lived every page" of his books. A practical author, Wattles encouraged his readers to test his theories on themselves rather than take his word as an authority, and he claimed to have tested his methods on himself and others before publishing them. Wattles practiced the technique of creative visualization. Unlock the power of intermittent fasting and lose weight for good without dieting!

If you are thinking of fasting or have made up your mind, this text will help you gain another beneficial perspective. In and of itself, however, it's not a convincing argument with data or other information that will convince a non-adherent. A nice little read for fans of the author; perhaps too esoteric for the rest. This book is a very good basic primer on why to fast, but there is no diet outlined at all, just why eating light is better than eating heavy is the main message and its a great message! THis book is very basic and straight forward, if a bit over-simplistic. Taking into account it was written in the 's I will be brief.

It is overpriced, completely Christian based and redundant.

I have read many books on diet and fasting, and do fast regularly. The body was designed to thrive on clean air, clean water, and a minimal amount of pure whole food in that order. Just think about how long you can go without air seconds, maybe minutes , before the body goes into a panic? Now think about water The body can live at least a month without solid food, and even longer on liquid food raw juices and such.

Wattles explains, in a somewhat scientific way, that fasting is not only desired for health , but required. His most famous work is a book called The Science of Getting Rich in which he explains how to get rich. He personally "tested" the principles he describes in his book and they worked, as although he had lived most of his life in poverty, in his later years became rich.

Little is known about Wattles' life. He was born in the USA shortly before the civil war, and experienced much failure in his earlier years. Later in life he took to studying the various religious beliefs and philosophies of the world including those of Descartes, Spinoza, Gottfried Leibniz, Schopenhauer, Hegel, Swedenborg, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and others. It was through his tireless study and experimentation that he discovered the truth of New Thought principles and put them into practice in his own life.
