It isn't just that the simple stories each convey a 'moral' or lesson. It's that throughout the reader's life, one will encounter references to these stories. And if you don't, it's n Aesop's Fables should be a part of every child's cultural education. And if you don't, it's never too late to enjoy them. I have never ever read such badly written stories. Before a child can even understand the meaning of the story, a moral line is inserted. The punishment meted out for doing simple wrong things like talking out of turn etc - is death.

For god's sake, how am I supposed to teach my child that death is not an answer for doing all wrong things in life? Definitely not for talking out of turn. Nope I am sticking to Hardy Boys with my boy. Nice art, good stories. Mar 06, Abigail rated it liked it Shelves: A nice collection of Aesop's fables suitable for reading to yourself or out loud. The illustrations are fantastic.

Almost every fable has a picture be it small or large enough to fill the page. Excellent retelling of the fables. Not dumbed down in any way. The language is fairly challenging, but my 5 and 6 year olds understood it without difficulty. While I have no problem with the word used in this context it just wasn't a word I wanted them repeating over and over again. A How do I love thee, Milo Winter? We read 2 pages a day and loved every minute of it. When we finished they wanted to start over again. They loved it so much they wanted to buy it for all their cousins for Christmas.

The aesop for children is by Milo Winter. This book is full of many stories that teach important lessons. My favorite Fable was the Milkmaid and Her Pail. It tells of a milkmaid that is carrying a milk pail on her head. Soon after she thinks about it the pail falls from her head and spills all over the ground and all her pride is gone. Sometimes when you plan so far ahead you forget to focus on little details that matter a lot like when she didn't think about being careful and balancing the bucket. I like this story because it makes me think of the times when I have planned out something in the future and I didn't focus on the things I needed to do in the moment to accomplish that.

The price was really fair too so I brought 6 copies with me to China which I gifted to the executive group I was speaking to. It's a great book for all ages and I recommend this product to all buyers. This book advertises to have full color illustrations in both the online description and the back cover.

The Aesop for Children (Part I) (read aloud)

When I received it, however, I was very disappointment to find that not a single illustration was in color and all of them are just about inches tall! You practically need a magnifying glass to see what's happening in them. The stories are accurate but this is not a version for reading children. I was disappointed because the drawings are in black and white. Maybe they were originally as well? I should've researched it more because I really wanted our copy of Aesop's Fables to be special so the illustrations were important to me.

It was a good price though. This is a comment about truth in advertising. Nowhere in the description does it say that the illustrations are printed in black and white. And the paper is so thin, you can often see the printed lines showing through from the opposite page. There is a reason the book is offered at such an economical price.

This review is for the hardcover edition which has the front cover as pictured with the child sitting in the tree surrounded by animals. It is now out of print, but both used and some new copies are still available. I wanted it as Christmas gift for a grandchild so before ordering I checked with the seller and as he promised, my new copy arrived in pristine gift giving condition.

The reviews that state the illustrations are in black and white refer to the paperback. This hardback edition has some black and white illustrations but also many lovely color illustrations - the artistic quality and beauty of the color illustrations is the main reason I wanted this particular book. I also like the inclusion of a table of contents, the tone of the somewhat old fashioned yet easy to understand language, and the morals that are included at the end of each story.

I see that the remaining new copies have much higher and in some cases even exorbitant prices.

The Aesop for Children

This book was ideal for our homeschool needs, but is a basic copy of Aesop. If I had it to do over, I'd invest a few more dollars in a Milo Winter copy with beautiful illustrations. My children and I did enjoy the stories, but I feel that a nicer copy would enhance the learning experience. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I actually needed this book for a Folk Literature class, but didn't want to shell out the cash for the actual hard-cover edition.

The Kindle edition had all the same text as the print book with an interactive table of contents, which is really nifty considering how many stories there are and I only needed to refer to a select few. My only gripe is that the Kindle edition doesn't have the illustrations by Milo Winter, but since it was free, I can't complain. The Kindle edition is great for reference, but if you want to read these tales to your kid, you definitely need to get the print copy with all the beautiful pictures. Once again, I am very disappointed. I bought two different versions of Aesop's Fables.

I just wish I had known that the illustrations were black and white. In fact, they look like black and white reproductions of original colour illustrations, and a few of them seem to have been enlarged a little, meaning the resolution is slightly stretched. However there is an excellent selection of fables - in all.
