The Hero (Legacy of the Aldenata, book 5) by John Ringo and Michael Z Williamson - book cover, description, publication history.
Table of contents

They were supplied for up to 5 years of siege. When defeat was inevitable the Navy would evacuate the forces. Each city would be supported by one or more "outer fortresses" that would provide enfilade and defilade fire against the Posleen. When the outer fortresses were in danger of being overrun, ACS or Cavalry units would be employed to aid their escape to the mounains. Sacramento would be garrisoned by 5 divisions. The Midwest would be defended by more fortress cities and by the 11th Mobile Infantry Division. It was expected that the Posleen would eventually overrun the Great Plains all the way to Nebraska or South Dakota due to the lack of defensible terrain.

Some areas of Colorado were expected to survive because of the Rocky Mountains.

The orbital mechanics of the Posleen descent from orbit meant that there would be a concentration on the eastern and western coastlines and that there would be a greater concentration on eastern than western. This drove the disposition of the available forces, as did their state of training. At the time of the 1st landing at Fredericksburg , the units were assessed to be very weak.

Units that were rioting three months ago. This is only a fair story overall, and poor for John Ringo. It gets VERY long in the middle.

It is well written but the plot it thin in the second half. If you are reading this to stay up with the Legacy of the Aldenata series you can skip this one, it is only a very small side story. Too bad I can not get a refund on an audio book. Any additional comments? This story was definitely out of place in the series. It took me a while to get in to it. It gets much better in the latter parts, but this was not in line with the rest of the series.

Overall I guess I enjoyed it, but if I knew what I know now, I would have skipped it until the end of the series. I must say that this was an ok story, but I wouldn't consider it a true part of the "Legacy of the Aldenata" series. It only makes references to the characters and species in the pervious books. I think it could have just been written and published as a stand alone book. I believe "The Tuloriad" is better to be book 5 for this series. This book had no transition from "Hell's Faire". Throughout the entire book we are waiting for that link, It never comes!

The Aldenata series is very well read.

It takes you where you never would think. The book is about 1, years after the Posleen Wars. I think there worth listening to. I started this book with the thought it would wrap up the series, or be some tyep of continuation. I was not expecting that all the characters from the original series would be gone, the technology different, the storyline different, pretty much everythign different.

I listened to the first two hours, and then gave up, as this could not hold my interest, perhaps I was expecting somethign else. Not sure if it got any better. I understand this book is no longer canon but it's still a good book.. I reccomend it. It wasn't bad.

John Ringo - The Legacy of the Aldenata 3 - When the Devil D

But the storyline jumped a millenia or so, and It's basically a stand alone in an established universe. Not bad for a distraction while driving or doing chores.

Did not follow the previous books with ongoing characters. Actually I suppose the story was just ok but I am seriously considering having it as my as my first return simply because of the disappointment factor. Michael O'Neal.
