After a few days you will get the hang of it. Millions of tourists over the years have managed to survive in Thailand on less money than you have. And they seem to have a good time too! I have a pre paid card that I am going to transfer all my money on and will use that to pay at some places that take card - the other i'm just going to draw out half and exchange at Bangkok airport and the other half the second week in - maybe in Phuket?

I don't think we'll be going too extravagant but we would like to think we can do as much as possible. Agree with the above posts, and also that you can pretty much spend as much or as little as you want depending on your choices of meals, tours, drinks etc. You get exactly what the exchange rate says. Also there are plenty of exchange kiosks in all tourist places such as Bangkok , Chiangmai, and the main beaches and islands that tourists go to.

Usually when I am in an unfamiliar country I make a note of what I spend each day so that after a week I have a pretty good idea of what I can live off, and if on one day I spend too much I just spend a bit less the next day, and it evens out. You can easily save money by drinking less beer, or walking somewhere instead of taking a tuk tuk.

So don't worry. Last year I spent on average about 1, baht per day but I only spent between baht and baht on a room and hardly ever ate western food. Generally good tips from Robin and Infedelal, the budget you accommodation doesn't work with me though I never pay more than baht a night for hotels but we spend 4, to 5, Baht a day depending on where we are and in Pattaya our accomm is Baht a day Here is a link to UK banks charges for using cards abroad.

Try not to eat in restaurants all the time your money wouldn't last long use the street vendors the food is very good if you like spicy food, There are loads of shops were you can buy food ready to eat stuff. Warning do not buy off the beach vendors they are carried up and down the beach all day and not always fresh. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity. Or have THB on a travel card, or just try and use cash everywhere? Again it depends on the fees attached to the card — my STA card is pretty solid when I need to pay via chip and pin :. I went and got an STA card, gonna check out that and my Natwest debit out there and see how I get on.. But after reading about it online people seem to be slamming it saying the rates are pretty poor.

Regarding exchange rates? Check out moneysavingexpert. I want to back pack from Bangkok around thailand like you suggested and then fly to bali then back to Bangkok. Hey Maria, Sounds like an awesome trip you have planned there! Hmmmm budget wise the biggest expense is going to be Komodo and the cost of that really depends on which tour you book. Thanks so much for the advice but due to pricing and culture we were thinking of going to cambodia instead. If we went away for 6 weeks and spend 12 days of it in cambodia and the rest in thailand how much do you think it would cost compared to spending 2 months there splitting the time evenly between thailand and Cambodia?

Wow thanks for the awesome post!

And we are not fussed about expensive places to stay. Thank you. Hey Chris can i ask you something? How much money need to stay in Kah Tao for three weeks we are two I and a friend With good hotel, breakfast etc. Hey Yll — hmmmm it really depends on the level of accommodation you guys are wanting as they have everything from hotels or hostels and over 3 weeks that will be your main cost aside from scuba diving.

Sorry bro another one question how can you go to Koh Tao from Bangkok Yll recently posted.. I like to stay in a hotel with good accommodition and to do twice or three scuba-diving. Nasir recently posted.. We are a couple with two children, one of 10 and another of 4 years and we are going to Thailand to spend 30 days. We would like to know if with THB just for food, drink and transportation we managed to get through this period. Transport would be taxis and boats to the beaches as we will stay in Krabi, Railay, Chiang Mai and Bangkok.

Anyway, this value is only for fun since travel and lodging are paid for.
