One content descriptor states students should be able to consider when analogies might be used in expressing a point of view. This is exactly what philosophy teaches children. And this can be done through a program specifically tailored to primary school aged children, known as Philosophy for Children , or P4C.

Programs in Philosophy for Children have shown significant benefits for students around the world. These benefits include improvement in academic results, as well as less measurable outcomes such as helping children make sense of their place in the world. The idea of doing philosophy with children began in the 70s when Matthew Lipman and Ann Sharp developed the first P4C program in primary schools. In the last 50 years, Philosophy for Children has spread to more than 60 countries.

It has gone on to influence university level philosophy , the business world and has also been used in prisons. In these programs, children discuss issues around ethics or questions of personal identity. These are fundamental to understanding ourselves, especially during the formative years of school where young people are developing their identities. For instance, students in Years 1 and 2 can analyse the ethics of truth-telling and explore whether it matters if the lie produces a positive outcome, or whether the intention of the liar matters, or whether it matters if it was an insignificant little white lie.

This can generate questions such as: is gender tied to sex, does gender happen at birth or do you develop a gender, and can people identify as a particular gender? But, with little outside support available, school staff must develop the program and embed it into their own curriculum. Ireland has embraced Philosophy for Children and given philosophy a core place in the Irish education system.

President Michael D. Our values come from all kinds of places!

Who Am I, Again? by Lenny Henry review – a cry of existential angst

Our values tend to align with our health, families, social self, work self, spirituality, and even our future selves. Your authentic values can be chosen from among many options. They will be prized and cherished, publicly affirmed, and acted upon as part of a pattern that is a repeated action.

Defining our values will require some exploration and reflection. A couple exercises to get you started:. Divide a piece of paper into four squares. Label each: Favorites, People, Places, Me. In the Favorites square, list your favorite song, food and way to spend your night off. In the People square, list the three most nourishing people in your life, the most toxic person in your life, and a person from whom you need more validation.

In the Places square, list you favorite warmest room when you were 7 years old, favorite warmest room in your house now, and your current favorite vacation place. Now, in the Me square, list three qualities you like about yourself, one new thing you have done in the past year to make your life better, and one thing you can do in the next 6 months to enrich your life.

On the other side of the paper, list 5 things in our life that you consider your big positive, moments. Next to each of those, write two words for each experience. These words should reflect the importance of those events. And those who understand the truth that they are Krsna's servants are the jnanis. Is it better to be a jnani knowledgeable person or a servant? The knowledge for each individual living entity may vary. But the nature of servitude will not change.

Therefore to realize that we are servants of Krsna is the best and topmost realization. Because of all false ego, the soul is trapped in this prison like material world. Durga is in charge of this prison material world. In Sanskrit, Durga means difficulty. The prime duty of Siva and Durga is to imprison the souls in this material world who were envious of Krsna and wanted to live whimsically. After attaining that there is no possibility of returning to this material world. We are living in kali yuga. Kali yuga means the age of quarrel and hypocrisy.

If there is no mercy to any living entity, people will start eating meat. If there is no discipline or regulation in mind and body, they will start taking intoxicants. If there is no truth, gambling is performed or wealth is earned by wrong means. If there is no purity in mind and body, illicit sex is done. These have been described years ago by the sage Vedavyasa in the Vedic literature. Sanatana Dharma, Buddha dharma and other religions clearly instruct us not to eat non-vegetarian.

Science also tells that this gives way to lot of diseases. Television and cinema more often show things breaking the above mentioned 4 regulative principles. Women are being embarrassed in the name of attractiveness.

Watching movies and television is wasting money and time. Mind also becomes distracted to a wrong path. For example, If we go out with our parents and see a boy and girl doing intimate activities, we will be very upset in mind. But in TVs and movies they show this in a very bad way. We give money, mind, intelligence, time for this and waste everything. The principles said before make us free from sin.

meaning - Use of "Who am I" and "Who I am?" - English Language & Usage Stack Exchange

An intelligent person understands this and follows as per the vedic directions. Less intelligent people who challenge the Vedas and try to live whimsically are compared to animals. In kali yuga, people with a desire to do sinful actions, do not have faith in vedic scriptures and Spiritual masters. Parents try to make their children as a doctor, engineer, lawyer or any rich person. In this, anyone may become true or does not happen.

But, one thing is present, and it can't be stopped at any cost. That is death. Scriptures tell what the person becomes after death. We try so much for things which may or may not happen. After knowing that death is sure and to know more we have to read scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam. The one who created this universe can only be one.

There are not many Gods. Here, the presence of many religions may cause confusion, but, all speak about the one God only. The only difference between man and animal is that a man can have devotion to God and lead a regulated life. But, nowadays, man is becoming animalistic.

In the Bible, Youvan 3. Sanatana Dharma is called Hinduism. Bible, Quran and many scriptures proclaim God to be light and many worship accordingly. But God is complete without any imperfections so a formless stage will become an imperfection in God. Vishnu, paramatma is present with each soul inside and outside and in complete as the supreme personality of God as Bhagavan Sri Krsna. Bhagavan indicates Krsna only. This is said in Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam and many Vedic scriptures.

Krsna Himself says that there is one God and He is that God. This is also mentioned in the Bible and the Quran. The names Krsna, Allah and Buddha all indicate one person only. Sun cannot become different or many by calling it in different names in different parts of the world. In the same way, all scriptures talk only about Krsna. Jesus, Prophet Mohammed and Buddha are all described before in the Mahabhavisyad purana.
