I currently work on our New Zealand and Thailand programs. My role as team lead and Program Manager is to make sure everything on these programs is running smoothly working with our team. It includes everything from making sure students have pre-departure information on time to making sure they submit all of the items they need to study abroad i. Where did you study abroad? What brought you back to Melbourne to live and work after graduation? When I graduated, I knew I wanted to return to Australia. My time studying abroad had given me that exposure to living abroad and I wanted to spend more time there as a professional.
For my career, It was great to gain work experience at a university abroad. Packing for study abroad is always a challenge and popular topic, as a frequent flyer — what insider tips do you have for someone packing for the semester? I took half of my closet and never touched the majority of it. My other advice is to pack articles of clothing you can mix and match to create different outfits to help reduce items. Also try to keep the shoe situation under control, they take up a lot of room. Bring a couple pairs that are super versatile and comfortable.

If you were going to study abroad tomorrow on a TEAN program where would you go? I also recently lived in New Zealand for a year based out of Auckland. I love the idea of going for a semester, joining a tramping club on campus and getting out into the beauty of New Zealand in my free time! The Quad garden is right next to the Music department is the nicest place to study on campus and relatively unknown.

Sun, flowers and live music performances — what more could you ask for? Signal Hill is a great walk from campus for amazing views of the city and the surrounding hills, beaches and sea. Best time to go is at sunset where you can watch the sun go down and the lights turn on. What is your role at TEAN? I look after students that study abroad at the University of Otago and help introduce students to New Zealand culture during TEAN Orientations as well as throughout the semester. What is the best part of your job?
I love seeing how newly arrived students react when they walk up to an amazing vista — like in the Otago Peninsula or Queenstown or Milford Sound — that perfectly encapsulates the natural beauty of New Zealand. What makes Dunedin a great place to study abroad? Dunedin is the only place I know where you can see albatross and penguin colonies in amazing nature reserves close to town — it really deserves its reputation as the wildlife capital of New Zealand.
Students in Dunedin get the perks of being in a college town, in a place with a rich indigenous and immigrant history, and surrounded by green hills and wild beaches. Every student in New Zealand should plan to do a Great Walk or at least a part of it. I also recommend taking the time to watch kapa haka groups that often perform during community events, and learning about Maori history and culture.
What places would you recommend to someone visiting New Zealand? The town is right near the start of the Kepler Track and is the closest town to Milford Sound.

I found that the Alta Via 2 was considered the hardest of the high routes through the Dolomites. I need to live a long time. Keeping a list of trip ideas will provide motivation to keep getting you out again and again.
The guidebooks recommended staying there, so we saw dozens of other trekkers, and the locals seemed accustomed to catering to foreign tourists. While Lower Pisang had mud and stone buildings and views of massive, icy peaks, it held no surprises for us. Although we were tired and feeling the effects of higher elevation, we decided to walk uphill from Lower Pisang to Upper Pisang, which, clearly, few other trekkers bothered to do. There, on dirt paths between ancient stone homes, children ran out to greet us, shouting and laughing and pulling on our clothes to lead us through their village.
We found a tiny teahouse, accessed by climbing up a wooden ladder to the second-floor balcony, where the owners served us tea and showed us their kitchen, a dirt-floored room with a single, kerosene burner. Visiting Upper Pisang was the kind of experience that makes a trip more special. Treat the guidebook as just that—a set of rough guidelines and advice, not a step-by-step manual. Be curious and flexible, look around, and explore.
Reaching the bare crown of Poon Hill, at over 9, feet, we watched and waited beneath the dome of a Himalayan night sky riddled with stars. Soon, rich bands of red and yellow slowly ignited the eastern horizon and dawn seeped across the sky.
