I have never been so moved by a book as I was by this one, deliciously emotional, heart-wrenching and utterly captivating. Enters as a young Darcy was ripped from his mothers arms by George Darcy who was not Darcy's biological father.

His older brother and the heir had died and he was summoned to Pemberley to be educated in estate management as the new heir. He had been living in Scotland, alone with his ostracized mother. Follows canon up until DHP disastrous Hunsford proposal but as he handed Elizabeth the letter, he did not resist his urge to kiss her Observed by a friend of lady C, a FMS forced marriage scenario arises. Follow their 25 years of marriage as they never open up and tell each other of their feelings until it was too late.

Elizabeth dies and Darcy is left with a lot of regrets. Do not worry too much , the promised HEA will come and the secrets will be revealed. Heartily recommend this book! This is the Christmas Carol meets Pride and Prejudice.

I use "Christmas Carol" with reservations because it has nothing to do with Christmas and does not have 3 accompanying spirits. There are may plot innovations in this story that keep it interesting and moving forward. I will usually do a lot of skimming in a nearly page book to get to the "story" and avoid the unnecessary description my opinion , etc, but this story held my interest and kept the pages turning.

The most interesting plot variation to me is Darcy positively dealing with Wickham and the dividends it pays later. This is a new what if involving Wickham for me. It is a good read and one I will be re-reading. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. Ms Fairbanks always writes well, and in this particular version, Darcy is illegitimate and has lived with self-doubt all his life. I wish I could pinpoint why the story felt hollow. Though the characters were sympathetically portrayed, I could never warm up to them.

Also, the angst was splattered on the story like a spilled ink pot, rather than carefully penned in. I am totally blown away. I was in tears and devastated at mid point. Then the rest of the story unfolded. My goodness what a story. I would give it 10 stars if it was possible. It is so well written, involving the cannon but with definite originality. A wonderful variation that kept me reading. It started off with the characters light and shallow especially Darcy , which disappointed me until I realised that was the authors intention! By the end, the characters were so real, deep and emotional, my heart thumped I'm sure it stopped-you'll know when!

Highly recommend this book. One person found this helpful. This is one of the best variations I have read. I love Rose Fairbanks books but I believe this is her best. The dream sequence frighten me. It was about half way through the book, so the story was became fascinating. It was one of those books you hate to go sleep because you want to finish. Such a different take on the Pride and Prejudice variations. This story had an unique plot line that I have never read before. It kept me on the edge of my seat, I had to know more. I applaud Rose Fairbanks for turning out a story that was riveting.

Long awaited newest from Fairbanks, the story is delightful. I anguished over what would become of our dear Darcy, but his redemption is one long love story. See all 34 reviews. Most recent customer reviews.

Then, something happens that basically leaves them un-engaged as quick as they began and the rest of the story is overcoming the misunderstanding and whatnot.

As I just mentioned, that talk was some of the longest and unnecessary prose I've read. For every little thing and bit of dialogue, Lizzy and Darcy went into page after page of thinking. It was just so neverending and boring that I found myself skipping a lot of the story. Funny enough, where the beginning of the story or actually more than half of the story is slow, the author then gets to a point where she now decides to rush through the rest of the story. The epilogue is a good example where so much was conveyed in such a limited space.

Even so there were still conversations that desperately needed revisions to remove so much redundancy and repetition.

Pride And Prejudice Sequel: Read An Excerpt From 'Death Comes To Pemberley' By PD James

Again I found myself skipping a lot. I really tried to like it. And based on reviews most readers enjoyed it. But I'm not one of them and that's okay. Everyone's tastes are different.

  • The Secrets of Pemberley: A Pride and Prejudice Variation?

But I don't even see myself buying the sequel novella. One person found this helpful. That no one seems to think it very unusual that Mr Collins changes " the object for my affection " quite quickly - From Jane to Elizabeth and then within minutes Mary simply is astounding! Obviously he is lacking a spinal column.

Mary caused more problems for her sister than Lady Catherine and its astonishing that she didn't realize it. She knew what Mrs Bennett was like in her never ending need to boast to Lady Lucas about anything and everything. The story followed the original but changed slightly. Elizabeth sacrificed for her sister first and then for Darcy. She's the ultimate martyr. But mire more importantly Darcy understands her and refused to allow. I am a fan of long and detailed stories and wish that the author had continued this story and not just given the epilogue. I don't enjoy short stories either.
