I also found a few international and other covers for the Forest of Hands and Teeth Is that title translated 'The Forest of the Damned'? I kind of like this one. I love this cover, though not the fact that they shortened the title like that. Not very attention-grabbing never mind. I only took in the huge red lettering, and missed the cool sub- title-- thanks, Mrs. I also like the dark contrasts of the light and the woods. So, what do you guys think? If anybody has any suggestions for covers to feature in the future, I'd be more than happy to take them.

I'd like to start featuring some newer covers, rather t han just my old favorites. Wishing you all a great week! Saturday, January 22, In My Mailbox 7. I've been blogging for a little over 3 months, which seems nothing short of bizarre to me. Tuesday, January 18, Firelight by Sophie Jordan. Posted by Kat at 1: I think you could guess where this one's from. Yes, it's the Chinese cover for Graceling and I absolutely adore it. I don't think Fire has been released in China-- too bad.

Me, I'm a huge fan of the Chinese cover, especially since I'd never seen it before I went cover-hunting, but the UK covers are definitely the coolest I've actually seen around the blogosphere. The US ones are nice, too-- those are the ones I have, so I'm a little attached. It was familiar, but very strange. You feel there are levels above the one we are introduced to. This book set itself up for a sequel. When it comes I want to hear more of the Pringle family. And, of course, Jenny.

The tone of the book reminds one of The nightmare Before christmas with a family friendly benign look at death and the afterlife. It then gradually coalesces into the hero's journey as Phineas Bean must come to grips with his own death and finding his dead parents in the afterlife.

  • The Short Death of Phineas Bean by Daniel A. Miller.

Gradually the tale unwinds deftly as the reader realizes the word epic comes to mind with the promise of more volumes of a well done story to come. An excellent first effort. A fun read for kids of all ages. I got this book for my 11 year-old son and he loved it! He kept telling about the characters in the land of the dead. At first I thought it might be too dark for him but after looking it over I found it to be simply delightful full of fun characters, dark villains and outrageous settings. This was a surprisingly fun and quirky middle grade book to read and can't wait to see what other troubles Phineas Bean can get into with his friend Jenny. I think it can appeal to both boys and girls from ages 10 and up.

The Short Death of Phineas Bean

Phineas is a fun character, he is just a ordinary boy that finds out he is a seer. Tragedy strikes and though he is sad, he still puts on a brave face and does his best to survive. He is a very brave young man with a lot of strength and will power.

Over all I really enjoyed the storyline and characters in this book. Sometimes you take a real chance on self published books but in this case I am very glad I decided to review it. If you like quirky, dark, fun books then I think you would enjoy it. A Birthday he's sure to never forget as a horrible 'accident' at an amusement park he and his family went to claims all of their lives. Or so everyone thinks. Phineas embarks on a journey through the Afterlife only to find out he's still alive and that his family has a secret to kill for. It's all up to Phineas to save himself from his Uncles and save his parents in the Afterlife.

The book, obviously, is aimed at a young audience. Phineas is an 11 year old. I thought, hmm, this may be a little TOO young for me.
