It offers a tale of cunning, bravery and survival, but the happy ending we so often crave because the reality of the Holocaust was that so many more were murdered or perished than the few who survived. Ursula s Prism is based on the true story of Ursula Swartz and five other childrenwho escaped from Bergen-Belsen and crossed war-torn Germany on foot to freedom. Ursula shares the secrets of the prism with the other children and the power of there imagination gives them the strength to survive.

Running, hiding and stealing, day after day was all the children knew since escaping from the concentration camp known as Bergen-Belsen. They found that life ouside the camp was just as brutal as inside. Six year-old Ursula, her older brother and four other children were smuggled out of the camp by a brave soldier in the bottom of his truck. Handing them a few provisions, the soldier dropped off the children in the forest, leaving them to fend for themselves. Ursula s Prism is a story of heroism, courage and honor as this group of six children fight to survive in a war-torn Germany, showing the resiliency and strength of the human spirit when faced with seemingly impossible circumstances.

I met the author and she is so sweet. Learning the history behind the story and then reading it really brings it to life. I loved it but if you are looking for a tear jerked its not it. But it's a strong story and so amazing!! Very emotional book and well written. You will feel the power of this book and the essence of the author's message even after reading a few pages.

Her essence of life is compassion. The book is a true story told to Anna by her mother, Ursula.

Ursula wanted her daughter to know what happened at that time in her life. By reading this beautifully written, heartfelt, and heart wrenching book, you will find out some of it. You will follow the Schwartz family through the horrors of being taken from their home by the Nazi's and the humiliation of the concentration camps.

We think we know the atrocities that occurred in the camps and how the Jewish people suffered and tried to escape The Schwartz family's children along with four other children did escape and lived in the woods using their wits, courage, and a necklace to keep them continuing on. The necklace that Ursula had put in her pocket when the Germans took them from their home gave the children hope and brought back wonderful memories of her mother and her prism principles: Maybe today will be our smooth, good day or maybe tomorrow will be our good day.
