This novella is the third work by the author I have read in the last month in a half or so. That said, this is possibly my favorite so far. Holy crap, this book is so great!! It's set in the dead of winter and is full of gloomy atmosphere and dread. It's almost like a twisted Gothic romance crossed with a splatter punk love story. Totally brilliant!!

Scott, but I'm sure I'll be able to gather up a few new ones, I always do I have been following him around like a love sick puppy dog for awhile now, hungrily consuming everything he has to offer, enthusiastically I am current in his library, even having reread a couple of his shorts already.

Consumed was his You know, there really isn't many more amazing and fabulous things I can say about Kyle M. Consumed was his first collection of shorts and Devil's Day was his first novel, both excellent 5 stars from me, and yet he has managed to transcend and evolve his writing technique to a whole new level, honed that craft of his to be even tighter than before.

Razorblade Candies book 1 - Love Lies Dead is the first volume in a new series of novella's he's planning on releasing per month. Super clever and catchy name and I just hope he brings a full fun sized bag of assorted and dementedly delicious goodies for us to indulge in.

Usually in my reviews I give a pretty thorough plot outline sans spoilers I've told you all you need to know. Kyle is the master at setting the mood before going all out bipolar on your ass. I'm coining it The Kyle Style and anyone who has read anything by him knows exactly what I'm talking about there. He'll make your eyes bleed and your juices flow! He has a very charming and charismatic way with words.

His use of metaphors, word play, analogies, intense descriptiveness, and depth characterization is nothing short of mesmerizingly brilliant. Kyle excels at the blackest of black humor, fiercely pairing it along side some of the most graphic and depraved stuff you'll read. You'll often find yourself gasping and giggling at the same time, then feeling a little bit dirty and sinful for it. Oh, to get a brief glimpse inside that big creative head of his, I'd probably not make it out alive I've been an avid - and rather chatty - cheerleader for alot of new and phenomenal writers I've discovered over the last few months but I find that I do tend to cheer just a tad bit louder and bounce just a wee bit higher with this one!

A genuine writer rock star, that guy! Ok ok, I did fib a little. There, I feel better, that's been bothering me this entire review I can't wait for the next edition of Razorblade Candies, seems so far away I think he should be releasing them weekly instead, he's more than capable!!! Perhaps I should have given myself a bit of warning to proceed with caution. From what I've experienced with Mr. Scott's fiction his work fits nicely into one of two categories. While I've enjoyed everything that I have read from Kyle, it's the second batch, the emotional, soul searching horrors that have scored home runs with me.

Not just entertaining me but haunting me. Shaking me. Making me excited to be a reader. Love Lies Dead hits hard and quick with a heavy dose of sorrow and a bouquet of feels. We are experiencing loss along with Paul, a man whose life has turned upside down. How exactly? Well, those pieces of the puzzle fall in time. We feel his pain, and although something is obviously not quite right, that question mark is pushed to the back burner while we hurt for him, hurt with him.

So when that not-quite-right feeling returns, with a vengeance, you are already trapped in Paul's darkness. In for a penny, in for a pound. Love Lies Dead turns sour in a great way , and turns sour fast. It can be a little overwhelming, a bit shocking, and let's not forget revolting. But with the emotional investment instilled early on you have no choice but to witness. I dug Love Lies Dead. A lot. In the quiet moments is when Kyle M.

    You ever read a book that seems like it's headed one way and then before you know it everything veers sideways and you find yourself cheering? Love Lies Dead is that sort of book. It's a short but brutal read that basically says; "I'm back did you miss me?

    The thing that makes this work is that Kyle uses emotions to suck you in. You can almost feel the loss that Paul feels and you can't help but feel for him. He's just lost his girlfriend and Scott details these scenes so You ever read a book that seems like it's headed one way and then before you know it everything veers sideways and you find yourself cheering?     This is going to be one of those novels right? Okay, maybe a ghost story? Oh, no, that would be too easy and Scott knows this and that's when the book becomes extremely twisted. When I say twisted Scott goes places that I have merely flirted with. Love Lies Dead is clearly a novel for those who like their horror dark and twisted. The thing is that on one level it all makes sense. Sometimes they let him in. He is trans and Malaysian-Chinese. He always orders xiao long bao.
