American Dream

They are my family and I know they will support me no matter what. Rainbow girls are the most caring people I have ever known.

Even if I'm just faking it, having a confident attitude will make others more likely to believe in me, and when others believe in me, I'm more likely to believe in myself. Rainbow isn't just an after school, service hour thing you do, it's family, it's my home. I can walk to a room my assembly gets excited to see me. Even my sister assembly, Camellia, gets excited too even though I can't visit them as often as I would like.

They showed me what it means to love someone purely. It gives little girls the chance to be princesses! And it gives the adults the chance to be a mother or father to the princess that they know their little girl could be! The only reason I joined was because my mother wanted me to have the same experience that she had when she was in Rainbow!

And I can't thank her enough for "forcing" me to join this fantastic organization! I can't imagine not having Rainbow in my life! No judgment and lasting friendships. In Rainbow we all come from different families, and all have our own uniqueness, but we're all accepted no matter what. Being yourself, is the best version you can be. It is so much fun to meet new Rainbow sisters and getting to see friends from all over at different events.

Rainbows (Girl Guides)

I have always been in love with the teachings and the fact that everyone involved is your family, and to this day, that is still my favorite part about Rainbow. I didn't always think it was something I wanted to be a part of, but now, I am glad I joined. My favorite part of rainbow is beings able to make new friends. Growing up with the people in my assembly, and being able to see all the new girls come in, and begin their rainbow journey, is truly amazing.

One of many life skills rainbow has taught me is public speaking. It may sound generic because that's what everyone says, but rainbow is excellent at teaching confidence in delivering speeches.

I have learned how to plan and execute a fundraising project, balance a budget, and lead a meeting, but the most important thing I have learned from Rainbow is the importance of service to our community. Rainbow Girls with different backgrounds have the ability to work together to uphold a common goal; to make a difference in someone else's life through acts of Love and Service. Rainbow teaches girls from a young age how to be poised, elegant, thoughtful, and courteous.

It also teaches life lessons such as public speaking, leadership, and good manners. Rainbow creates unshakable bonds between girls of all different ages and backgrounds.

Like a gang of sweet angels punching you in the heart.

They recently recorded an album of this material on their property in the countryside north of San Francisco. I was messing around with a new finger-picking progression and just kept muttering phrases to myself that had been marinating. It's a song to bring up the dissonance between the Dream this country has been selling for decades and all the folks trapped under the weight of money who aren't able to access it due to oppressive systems of power.

People who are told their lives aren't worth anything through the actions of government, police, and inaction of the justice system. Other's experiences are not my stories to tell, but the desire for security, love, family, the money-related fear, grief, and hope for eventual happiness can be shared by everyone on some level. The ideal of The American Dream is this paradise that you achieve after you reach some sort of finish line. But what we're learning is that you need to find the paradise in the small moments, and find the 'dream' in your everyday truth.

We often separate ourselves from our dreams, by choice and design, and we don't have to do that. It was cathartic, ripping up this symbol and putting it back together in a different, deconstructed form. And now that we've put it back together, it's beautiful, it's intentionally torn and ragged.
