Same with Greer. Yes she was a sweet and shy character that blossomed into a great woman, but in the end, I felt detached from her too. The fact that she was whining about not being able to go to Princeton kind of annoyed me. So yeah, all in all it was mostly a good story, with a touch of feminist ideology. I would recommend this book if your after a good story that has to do with following your ambitions in life, and also has strong female characters. It was somewhat inspiring, but for me it was more of a coming of age story than a feminist read. The feminist parts of the story just never felt real to me, it was all too privileged.

It was a flawed book but I still enjoyed reading it! I liked it. Write a comment. A collaborative book review, or buddy read if you will. Rebecca is a fellow book blogger buddy of mine who I have done some cool guest posts with in the past and we thought it would be fun to do a book review together. So we did just that! This was an ultra special post for us, so I hope you will enjoy our thoughts and views on this best selling thriller. Two opinions are always better than one, and Rebecca and I seemed to be on similar wavelengths with this review.

Check it out below! Synopsis: Obviously I have to tell y'all what the book is about or it wouldn't be a Chrissy review. The Wife between Us is about a complicated love triangle that follows a jealous ex wife Vanessa, who stalks her ex husband Richard, a successful hedge fund manager and his new and young fiance. There are a lot of assumptions about the plot of this book the more you get into it, but assume nothing. Vanessa becomes almost obsessed with Richard and his young fiance, it's all very entangled and has some interesting plot twists.

What did you like about The Wife Between Us? That was my initial thought after reading this novel. I absolutely LOVE the fact that it was written by two women!

Very affluent women at that. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen are both successful career driven women so they definitely knew their stuff. The twists themselves were more subtle, but very clever, not anything sort of shockingly huge, it was more a classy understated twist, which fit in with the style of the book. As I was reading, I was having trouble keeping up with which wife we were talking about. The husband was a total sleazeball. While I found myself feeling a little sorry for these women, there was something about them that irritated me.

I am not sure that I can really put my finger on what it was, but there was a tone throughout the book that just rather made it fall flat for me. I was expecting a bigger bang for the buck. What were your critiques on The Wife Between Us or dislikes? This book was ALL over Instagram, twitter and all social media outlets so I was a tad disappointed with the plot especially seeing how hyped up it was. I soon realized that this book was more about building the story of these women and their marriage than it was about crazy plot twists and suspense.

It was a subtle and carefully written domestic thriller. I tend to like more sort of action based thrillers with a bit more oomph. Which was great, but again, not very memorable. There was suspense. There was a little romance.

There was the want for revenge, the want to try and maybe save someone else from making a mistake. Any further thoughts or comments? It was a good story with good characters but it did lack that crazy plot twist which I thought it would have, but I appreciated the great storytelling in this book, and how cool was it that it was written by two women! If you want an easy to read, classy domestic thriller then this is defo the book for you.

You might absolutely love the book - it has some pretty fab reviews. Well, there ya go folks! I really hope you enjoyed our collaborative book review of The Wife Between us. I think it's kinda cool getting two different perspectives on the same book. Be sure to check out Rebecca's website. She's an avid reader too and has a pretty cool blog. Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff.

So much so that she was pretty much reading it every spare second she had and I wanted in on that action. Two years later, I finally got my hands on this book! Haha better late than never amirite? Fates and Furies is a story about a marriage over the span of twenty four years and takes place in New York. It all starts with Lotto and Mathilde, both very tall, good looking and at twenty two, they decide to get married after only meeting two weeks before and falling madly in love with each other.

Select Up To 5 Dates:

Ten years go by and they are still the envy of all their friends. They are very much in love and are also wealthy. From the outside, everything looks peachy and exciting to their friends, but we all know that there are two sides to every story. Their story has many complex layers and things are not as they seem. We follow Lotto and Mathilde through their entire marriage together and find out what really goes on in their seemingly envious marriage.

I had very very VERY high expectations for this book. Especially because one of my BFFs loved it so much and raved about how great it was. I wanted to love this book so much you guys, but to be honest. I struggled. Like I struggled pretty hard to get through it, but I read the whole book because I actually wanted to know how it would end. Also to know that I definitely did not like it, and I confirmed that when I read that last page. Let me talk about the positives of the book. Right of the bat, by reading just a couple of pages of Fates and Furies, you could tell that Lauren Groff is a very good writer.

I mean in a sense of that she loves the English language, and English Literature. This book has been written by someone who is a book lover and respects the great writers of the past and present. She quotes a lot of Shakespeare too in the book which I actually liked, because Shakespeare is the shit.

I also liked the many layers of the story between Lotto and Mathilde. Groff really took the time to get to know both characters and their stories well, the character development was excellent and you could almost empathize with both characters even though they both had many flaws that some people may not like. I guess it tells you a lot about the sort of person that reads the book? Just a side thought.. Maybe it was the style of writing, or the story itself? Lotto is a playwright and in the book you read a lot of his plays, which I found unnecessary for the story itself.

I hate to say this but I found the book to be kind of pretentious. But beyond that, the story itself and the characters, were cold, there was no soul, there was not much really beyond the amazing writing. Well for me anyways! This is my opinion of it.

See a Problem?

Gotta keep it real. That being said, if you want a book that is written amazingly well and explores the English language, incredible past writers, or if your into plays then this is the book for you. This is just my opinion about it.

Watching John Legend and Chrissy Teigen's Daughter Negotiate for Candy Is the Sweetest Treat

To end on a positive note, I did like the book cover a lot, the blue and white waves are gorgeous. Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue. I saw it on her instagram account and she told me how amazing it was and was inspired to finally get stuck in and read it. So a big thanks to Kimberly for kick starting my inspiration to read this great book. It follows a young man from Cameroon, Jenda Jonga, who has immigrated to Harlem in search of a better life for himself, his wife Neni and 6 year old son Liomi.

They can truly begin to imagine a brighter future for themselves in America and try and achieve their goals with this incredible income. Not long after, the epic fall of the Lehman Brothers leaves Jende stressed, worried and afraid of their future seeing as they may lose their steady income. I loved this book. If you want a book with character, heart, and just an all round great story then pick yourself a copy of this fabulous book.
