In Luther and Zwingli met in Marburg in the hope of hashing out a compromise on reformed sacramental theology. There was little hope. Zwingli, quoting John 6. Luther answered, quoting John 6. Zwingli, the Evangelist second edition and Luther the Redactor third edition. The third edition of the Gospel was meant to ameliorate not to refute, deny or reject the more radical assertions of the second edition.
I have long been a fan of Dr. Von Wahlde turns this on its head by claiming the Epistle was a commentary on only the second edition of the Gospel, that the Epistle was an intermediate stage between the second and third editions and that the Gospel, in its final form, is structured modeled on the Epistle! Now, it is important to remember that, in the commentary business, it is more important to be fruitful than right.
Whether subsequent scholarship follows Dr. What is important is that he has laid out a sumptuous feastfor his colleagues and hobbyists like myself to feed on. I expect his commentary will be in print a long time. Working with all three volumes for thirty hours. This is absolutely the best study of book of john I have worked with. My understanding of john has grown so much.

Very exciting and wonderful. The pace is slow and you will feel like you are sitting across from the author and receiving personal instruction. If you love the Lord you will love this commentary because it bring greater understanding. I have studied the books for six months now and I have not read a commentary on the bible that has helped me more than this one.
Wahlde shows in his books how the gospel of john was added to or changed three different times. The changes help our understanding of Jesus and what his coming to earth meant to us. To me the book shows how the church expanded its understanding of Jesus and his work done on this earth. If the church expanded the understanding of Jesus after Jesus returned to the Father, then the mission of the church must be the same today as it was yesterday.

This brings into focus the belief that the bible is frozen in stone and is sufficient in itself for believers to follow. I was raised in the Methodist church but have recently started becoming part of the Catholic Church and this book has been helpful to me. It is not difficult to read at all, though it is long. Wahlde has put the books together in a way that they are easy to follow and you can even skip to the back and just read the conclusions if you want to shorten up the read. I love the book and recommend it to believers to deepen their faith and to just "spend some time with the early believers".
