Claudias Big Break

Claudia's Big Break is a funny, thoughtful novel about friendship, romance, laughter and loyalty. It's also a breezy account of three women taking stock of their.

We see the hard side of life with a child and workaholic husband. Claudia also takes with her, her single friend who has swayed between same sex relationships and heterosexual relationships. The three girls are all falling a little short of living a wonderful life. We can also take a moment as we read to question why or why not we choose our sexuality and who we are attracted to. Jan 19, Bree T rated it liked it Shelves: Claudia Taylor is about to turn 39 and her life is going no where. Somehow, without her realising it, her twenties and most of her thirties are long behind her now in a blur of mind-numbing office jobs, inappropriate and disastrous relationships and monstrous debt.

An ill-timed and probably ill-thought out fling with her boss has just hit the skids and as a bit of a kiss off, her boss sends her to Greece all expenses paid for a couple of weeks. Claudia just has to do this one thing for him in Claudia Taylor is about to turn 39 and her life is going no where. So Claudia convinces her two best friends since high school, Sophie — thin, gorgeous, former corporate lawyer now wife to workaholic and mother of a toddler, and Tara — aspiring writer, suffering from a serious case of lack of inspiration, to come with her.

Sophie of course has to bring her young son but apart from that, the three of them are free to have fun in Greece, reliving memories of holidays gone by together when they were all young and single. Claudia is a little wary of this odd situation but she mostly puts that out of her mind in order to have fun and enjoy her holiday.

Editorial Reviews

A few encounters with a handsome Aussie get her blood racing — he was at Brisbane airport, she saw him on the street in Athens and now here he is in Santorini. Unfortunately a few pesky incidents keep cropping up and threatening to ruin an otherwise perfect holiday. The plot actually reminds me a bit of a novel I read many years ago, entitled Girls on the Run, by Talia Lyon.

Both novels involve three friends taking a holiday overseas one with a child in tow , a mysterious stranger who pops up in the most unlikely way, a fling between one of the characters and their boss and the underlying threat of something sinister that the reader identifies way, way before the actual character set up to take the fall does.

I have a 2. Too often the fact that parenting is hard and can be unrewarding at some times, is glossed over. Claudia as a character, was a bit of a tough one. She was drifting through her life, approaching 40, in a job she barely tolerated, a string of bad relationships behind her and she was living with her best friend because of her crippling debt. Although I felt sorry for her with how she obtained the debt, the sympathy kind of disappeared when she kept adding to it with silly purchases and not taking responsibility and trying to pay the debt off properly.

It has been ten years, since Claudia and her two best friends last went on a trip , so she decides to invite them on the journey and as it seems this journey maybe the answer to exactly what they have been seeking. So Claudia and her two friends plus Sophie's baby Levi accompany her to the Greek Islands, along the way however the trip comes with a stipulation - deliver an envelope to Con and get him to sign the papers and send back to Marcus- seems easy enough.

However as the story progresses we see lots of big breaks developing as Claudia's friend Tara is looking for a way out of her old rut of a life and meets single mother Angie , has Tara found a passionate spark in Angie? Sophie feels that her life is stuck just as a mother and yearns to find that spark she had before she become a mother , can this be found on the Greek Island? Read as the story develops and we note lots of fun friendships, times and a whole lot of laughs and self-relection and discoveries about the infamous Trio that is Claudia, Tara and Sophie.

Looking forward to more books to come my way by Lisa Heidke, one of my favourite across the ditch Aussie Authors. Feb 17, Wendy rated it liked it Shelves: Claudia's Big Break was an interesting read which did not take me very long to get through.

To begin with, the novel was a bit slow but the paced picked up after about 70 pages and developed into a delightful story. Though, there were some aspects that seemed overall cliched and implausible but in the end it added to the humor and enjoyment of the novel.

It is clear that the author put plenty of thought into this novel, as she outlined a deep and meaningful relationship between three characters with extremely different personalities. I will admit, that this novel was not necessarily one of the best books I have read lately, but it was an enjoyable and tasteful bit of light reading. Congratulations on this novel, Lisa: Feb 28, Wattle rated it liked it Shelves: I won this on Goodreads First Reads, so set about reading it almost as soon as I got it.

At first I wasn't really feeling it. I must admit, I don't really read chick-lit novels unless I'm in the mood for them, and this one was quite enjoyable with a nice little twist I was not expecting. Most of the characters were interesting and the story was quite well writ I won this on Goodreads First Reads, so set about reading it almost as soon as I got it.

Claudia’s Big Break

Most of the characters were interesting and the story was quite well written. Though the end did seem a bit rushed I could have kept reading though, it may have just been me! I would recommend it for a nice light read that is actually fun to flip through.
