Pele is the true main character in the book. There are many others who he interacts with but the book is mainly just based on him. Even for those people who are not really into soccer, Pele: Even for those people who are not really into soccer, they have probably heard Pele's name mentioned one time or another.

In this book he talks about the rough times growing up in a shack and some days not even being able to eat any food because the family did not have the money. With Pele being the best player to ever play soccer, winning 3 world cups, scoring so many great goals goals , and just flat out enilating teams at times making the goal keeper cry, and defenders to get mad out of their mind.

Being the best player to ever play didn't come easy. His growing up life wasn't all too easy. Being so poor, his family could not afford shoes. He found himself not having enough money for a real soccer ball so he made one made of cloth. His love for the game was too much. From what I got out of the book, it didn't matter what his life was like growing up, he always had the same dream in mind of some day representing his country of Brazil and playing professional.

It didn't come easy but with his hard work and love for the game, he made himself the best player to ever play setting so many records along the way. The book was very good. For me I didn't know much about his growing up life and his time off of the field.

All I really knew about him was what he accomplished on the field. In this book, it really gave me the real idea of what his whole life was about.

The promise made to bawling Dondinho on the day of what he called the National mourning, the day of loss in finals to regional rivals Uruguay, turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy when Brazil clinched the Jules Rimet trophy for the first time on 29th June against the hosts Sweden. Brazil would go on to triple the feat with Pele in the side, in Chile and in Mexico. Not to mention his mind-boggling yet doubted statistics during his stint at Santos and with the national side.

It was hunky-dory until the busy footballing schedule and endless endorsement commitments took a toll on his family ties resulting an estranged relation with Rosemeri and troubled times for Edinho. This book is sad and at the same time motivating, a really good book even if you are not soccer fan. Pele talks about his life and harsh times, how he came from nothing to becoming the best soccer player of all times. The I recently read the autobiography of Pele, the best soccer player of all time. He returned to Santos, and his team went on to win six Brazilian titles. In he again played on the Brazilian team that won the World Cup, but an injury forced him to sit out the contest.

He lead the Sao Paolo League in scoring for ten straight seasons. He was not only a high scorer, but a master of ball handling as well. It seemed the ball was somehow attached to his feet as he moved down the field. When he announced that he would retire from international competition after a game to be played July 18, , plans were made to televise the event throughout the world. I modelled My Football After Him. A Very Interesting Read. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Pele is my Childhood hero. As a footballer and a striker, I had perfected and improved my skills by learning from the greatest player in the world.

Like Pele, goal-scoring was so natural to me. I have forgotten, most of the things I read, because it's been a long time. But buying his autobiography, brought some of the memories back.

It is so good to know not only his football life but the other aspects of his life. I really enjoyed the book. I did that intentionally because, my focus is about lifting up the name of Jesus. I recommend this book to everyone, especially upcoming young boys and girls, who will be famous one day. There is a lot to learn from his autobiography. He will remain the greatest sportsman in my mind because of his humility and how he conducted himself in the field of play. In the Flame of His Glory. One person found this helpful. The book is interesting.

I ordered this for my 6th grade soccer fanatic because he had to do a report on someone who wrote an autobiography. While it was filled with lots of facts and information, it was difficult reading.

See a Problem?

The language and story line was tedious. I would recommend it but not for the younger reader. There are other Pele autobiographies that would be easier reading.

I could easily have given a 5-star I could easily have given a 5-star if his life descriptions and stories after football were as creative and mesmerising as his stories and descriptions before, in and during footballing. The concluding chapters were lame after fame, the great force and momentum of the whole story seemed to grind to a halt after his last word cup appearance. But my read of the book during the Brazil Work Cup added great expectations and the book, just like the host country's great start fizzled to disappointment towards the end.

But those of you out there wishing to read this I recommend and being different from me you may enjoy the book right through. One thing is certain though--Pele is one of the greatest sporting icons and, for me, soccer's greatest star yet and for him I'll give a 5-star anyy day.
