Love the quiet pace of life in Maine with older characters. It was hard to lose yourself in the story because it was told in first person dialog.

I've read this series up to this point this is either book 3 or 4 and I was hoping the writing would improve as the series progressed. But instead they just keep getting worse.

The characters are simplistic and rather one-dimensional. The author hasn't given us any real depth of understanding the relationship between the couple at the heart of the books, instead it's mostly a series of social events. The mysteries in this book relate to a local museum, a rogue security guard and some missing artwork. The two "private detectives" don't have a clue how to investigate a case or question witnesses and at times go out of their way not to follow basic and logical investigative procedures.

This 3rd books is just as engaging and enjoyable. Third in the series and as enjoyable if not more. As I read all three books within 2 weeks, the improvement in the writing and content is very noticeable. The writing style remains crisp without a wasted word.

Coastal Maine Cooking

Sometimes I wish the writer will linger or expand on certain scenes more. Alright there are still typos, which I easily forgive for small publishers. Plotwise, the murder mystery in this 3rd book is the most challenging.

It has to be since the boys got themselves a detective agency, with gadgets, assistants and all. Jesse even needs to learn how to shoot! Also, more attention is given to Jesse's sixth sense which I thought the writer explained credibly without making it seems supernatural. The murder mystery keeps me guessing till the very end.
