Mar 28, Josue Manriquez rated it really liked it. Some read the Bible for prideful reasons, some out of curiosity, and some for other unspiritual reasons. Yet such motives have nothing to do with God and the yearning for spiritual edification. This book focuses on reading the Bible with right motives, and how, upon doing so, we profit from it. Each chapter begins with a brief introduction to the relationship between Scripture and some topic such as God, sin, prayer, good works, joy, and love.

The author then provides seven main points for each c Some read the Bible for prideful reasons, some out of curiosity, and some for other unspiritual reasons. This book is concise and clearly written. It was a blessing to read each chapter, as I was challenged to stop and consider my own attitude and intentions when reading the Word. There were a few things I disagreed with, but nothing heretical or damaging to the book as a whole, thus I really liked this book!

Pink does a great job of practically outlining how our reading of the Scriptures should make us more Christ-like. The content is largely based on 2 Timothy 3: This book is truly a treasure and one that should be re-read often.

A friend and I read through this over the course of a month. What a great book to facilitate discussion on the Word! Each chapter brings your attention to a specific topic taught in Scripture such as sin, Christ, the promises of God, love, etc. I would encourage you to read this book devotionally, and would definitely recommend reading it with someone else in order to discuss and retain its teachings.

The running theme is that the reading of the Word of God ought to change our lives, and that reading the Bible should not just be an academic exercise to add more intellectual contents to our minds. I would say this is probably my favorite work by Pink.

Pink's life and ministry continue to fascinate and interest many partly because its influence grew exponentially shortly after his death in Profiting from the Word never appeared in book form while the writer was alive which is true of most of his books.

There would be a series of articles from the past and present with Mr. Pink editing and contributing articles,many which would later be compiled and published as books by numerous publishers. What is also interesting is how many different publishers through the last 60 plus years have published some of his books. Some of the individual chapters were published as small booklets by the Bible Trust Depot in the mid to late 's. It first appeared as a book in by The Banner Of Truth and remains in print to this day. Mount Zion Publications also known as Chapel Library in Pensacola Florida has had the book in print since the late 's and copies have been distributed worldwide to prison inmates,Churches and individuals.

The author takes some major Christian teachings and seeks to help the reader evaluate if their reading of God's Word is producing increasing godliness in their lives.

To give an example from the first chapter 'The Scriptures And Sin'-A few of the headings in this chapter are 1. An individual is scripturally profited when the Word convicts him of sin. Pink has creatively done,is to provide help for the reader to assess if their reading of the Bible is resulting in Biblical repentance. Pink had an accurate pulse on what ailed the Churches in his day. In the chapter 'The Scriptures And Good Works' he writes "to lose sight of the inseparable connection which God has made between our justification and our sanctification: They were living just as if they were not a believer but they had made a decision for Christ and accepted Him as their Savior,so they were eternally secure,no matter how they were living.

The book consists of ten chapters of about 10 pages each and is ideal for adult and High School level Sunday school or group Bible studies. One person found this helpful. This book is based on 2Tim. This book is like a mini practical theology. It takes the major doctrines of the Bible and examines the effect that should be produced in the life of anyone that has embraced these truths from the heart.

Anorther great work by Pink; no other teacher of the Word is even close to his insight and wisdom. Excellent book that challenges you to be more productive in your Bible reading.

A couple of sections seem to stretch to fit the exact theme, but are worth reading anyway.

If you are a true believer of Jesus Christ, spiritually growing daily and studying the Word of God, this book written by Arthur Pink helps us to understand the true meaning of having a personal relationship with God and what God require from us as believers. Some of the words in this book is wrtten in the old English style, which I had to look up to understand the way it is written.
