The universe is saved from collapsing in on itself. Bemused and frightened by the trail of violence he has witnessed, poor Tommy Lee Jones is left a broken man, his worldview shattered alongside his faith in humanity. At least Bardem refrains from killing the two young boys who assist him after his car crash.

Because life isn't fair...

After the seemingly triumphant ending which sees Cinque and his fellow captives returning to Africa as free men, a passage of text appears on the screen revealing that Cinque returned home to discover his entire tribe had been captured by slavers. He may have his freedom, but everyone dear to Cinque has long vanished. Not only that, but they have vanished into a life of slavery.

As the film comes to its jarring close, it is revealed that both Robbie and Cecilia died during WW2, their reunion never coming to pass. The narrative is revealed to be the contents of a book written by a guilt-stricken Briony, who finally realises the consequences of her earlier lie. Not only did Robbie and Cecilia both die before their romance could be fully realised, but Briony has spent a miserable life beating herself up about it.

At least Briony realises the gravity of her error. Not that its much use to Robbie or Cecilia. I just changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. The more I thought about the concept and how Philbrook put it together, the more I loved it.

I suppose these stories all started as fanfic. But this is no ordinary fanfic. The writing is uneven at times, to paraphrase Philbrook, some have great stories to tell, and others are great storytellers.

I'm glad that Philbrook has declared this volume of events canon. I look forward to re-reading the entire series, probably starting in January May 29, Dennis Pekkala rated it it was amazing. Being one of the authors within Unhappy Ending I may be a bit biased in that I loved the book, but look at it this way, I only contributed a small part of an overall good book to read. It is always interesting to see various peoples take on a much larger story, what they focus on, the horror, the desperation, or the comedy of the situation. All in all many hours were spent enjoying the ride these stories took me on.

It also speaks volumes that these stories were even given the chance of reaching a larger audience, because at least for myself I write because of the enjoyment rather than for a living, though that may change sometime down the road if things work out.

Thank you Chris, fellow authors, and the readers who stopped by. Dec 17, Thia rated it it was amazing Shelves: Stand alone short stories.

Unhappy Endings () - IMDb

If you love "first day" and "outbreak" zombie stories you will love this collection from various writers with Philbrookian taste. One note, some of the stories and characters are left a bit open ended so if that bothers you - you've been warned. A couple of them are not for the faint of heart either - these are serious zombie stories.

No sex - thank heavens, plenty of gore, and you don't have to have read Philbrook's other works to enjoy this one. I would certainly buy Stand alone short stories. I would certainly buy the next collection. Whether it's Chris's Eddie Smith stories bridging the gap between Cassie and his next series or one of the many other stories printed within, you'll be entertained.

So many good stories. It was fun to get into the world of Adrian's Undead Diary, even though most stories had more to do with zombies than AUD. In most, the reference to the spiritual aspect of the story was little more than a nod. As usual with anthologies, some stories are far better than others. But, overall, worth the time. Aug 07, R.

These stories were written by amateurs, but some of them are so good you can't tell. If you like zombies, and you aren't looking for something too long, then I definitely recommend this book. May 26, James Tracy Wilson rated it it was amazing. One of the coolest collections of zombie fiction. Well worth the read. I usually don't care to much for compilations, but this one is great. All these fan fiction shorts are in there own ways wonderful.
