I just finished the current books in her Charlie Parker Series. Charlie Parker is a partner with her brother in a private investigating firm. Though not really a private investigator, because Charlie is actually an accountant and does all the bookkeeping, invoices, and taxes for their firm, Charlie falls into murder investigations with a regularity that is quite astonshing.
I loved the entire series and hope there will be more. Each book for better and better. Her characters are well developed flaws and all which makes them human and animal. I mourned the loss of Rusty her first dog and fell in love with her new puppy Freckles. Fell in love with Drake, her husband. Now that is a man every woman can love.
Who wouldn't love a man who is sensitive , sexy, macho and cooks like a chef? One person found this helpful. Charlie Parker returns after a brief hiatus she and hubby Drake land a seasonal contract with Gold Trail Adventures operated by Kerby Allen in Skagway Alaska Gold Train Adventure gives city dweller the opportunity to have a adventure vacation of a lifetime.
Charlie and Drake will be air lifting those vacationers up to cabins in the mountains surrounding Skagway that have no electric, no internet, nothing except a emergency satellite phone to be used only in emergences. While in those cabins some for as long as two weeks those vacationers will have the chance to relive the life of the late 19th century Alaska gold rush pioneers.
Those hardy souls will have the equipment to pan the streams and caves looking for gold. What they don't know is Kerby himself has dropped some gold dust and a nugget or two in the vicinity so that some of those on these adventures will indeed be finding gold then bragging to all "We found Gold" which of course will be bringing lots more business to Gold Trail Adventures.
Early on the book we flip flop alternating from 's in flashbacks to the present day in subsequent chapters. The cast changes in the years between those chapters but some offspring of the people from those days play prominent in the present. Although the cast changes some of the locations and businesses have lasted throughout the story of Skagway.
The book has a lot of major players to keep track of. Connie Shelton keeping her style of giving you just enough information to start pointing fingers early on to who may have involved is a murder and in this murder you do not find out until the closing chapter and no you will not pick the guilty party prior to then. I don't think I will be spoiling anything by saying that Charlie, Drake and Freckles at some point are going to have to return to Skagway to retrieve something they left behind and just did not have time to do so right now.

There's the old lady probably not as old as me , but retired, wealthy, and wants what she want. Which is the family jewels, well not what you might suppose, actual jewelry, that a long gone relative got perfectly legally from some Russian big wig. It's stolen, then supposedly returned for big bucks, but the con is in.
Other ladies join the chase, from a teen computer wiz, to a housewife, to a fri Fun to read, sort of a romp. I looked forward to the first book in a new series but was seriously disappointed in this one. The plot is totally improbable, there is very little character development so the characters were one-dimensional and not very interesting. Also, both the characters and the plot were completely unbelievable. I really feel like I just got off the plane myself after being on a whirlwind of hunting down Men's fabulous Emerald necklace. If this first book is an indication of what's to come then I can't wait!
The Heist Ladies series is going to be off the charts! I'm so glad they came out on too and got the guy, but I kinda wished he had gotten away so that he might have popped up in another book, but I won't forget him anytime soon. Thank you Connie Shelton for such an awesome book. Diamond of a story First, I'm a cozy mystery fan and enjoy Connie Shelton's books.
Second, this was an innovative cozy. It was a fast read despite traveling from Arizona to the Caymans, Europe and back to Arizona. I'm feeling a little dizzy. Instead of the usual murder mystery, four women band together to foil a conman and retrieve a priceless heirloom necklace. This is the perfect book for a fun read.

I came this close to tossing it aside, but I am glad I push on. It is a good story No big intrigue so don't go looking for Jack Reacher, but it is a fun storyline and a great read. Aug 17, Suzatm rated it liked it. This had been described as appealing to fans of Janet Evanovich and Jana Deleon. I absolutely love Jana Deleon's books and this one in no way measured up to them.
Where I did keep reading to find out how it came together, I did not find any of the characters endearing enough to look forward to the next book and certainly not much humor.

Looking forward to reading more about Pen and the girls. Great read Another great series by Connie Shelton but than I expected it to be I love all of her books if you love great cozies with great characters than you need to check out her books can't wait till the next. Read it, you'll love it Just finished this book and it had me fro the first two short chapters.

Great story, as are all of Connie's stories. It is a bit different for Charlie's adventures and Samantha's adventures, but it was worth the read. Couldn't really put it down! What an adventure, recovering stolen property! This book had me wanting to join the ladies on their adventure of chasing a Con man and recovering stolen property. May we all have friends to help in our time of need! Don't try to steal from a woman!
