Books like this open your eyes to what's really happening on the streets. A gripping read with vivid descriptions of the alternately dramatic, routine, scary and moving scenes from the author's day-to-day work as well as his opinions and reactions to policies in the emergency medical field.

The book is written mostly in the form of anecdotes grouped by theme in each chapter, e. The story-telling approach makes the book interesting and even suspenseful at times, and lets you vicariously experience what the author sees and feels daily on the job. As someone who has no background in the medical field, I was impressed by and grateful for his book, which gave me insight into a noble, demanding, and often dangerous career as well as a broader view of aspects of human behavior and nature.

I found the book hard to put down and finished it in a couple of days it is not long. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a glimpse of "life and death on the streets" from a paramedic's viewpoint. This is a very well written and entertaining read.

It was pretty much what i was hoping for. It had interesting stories and insight into what medics deal with on a daily basis including the joys, challenges, and emotional and physical toll a career in prehospital care entails. Very good read for anyone really, especially those working in the medical field! It will give you a greater appreciation for EMT's and medics. Its hard to explain with just words what its actually like out on the streets especially to the uninitiated but Stuart does an awesome job of it in a way where anyone with the slightest bit of imagination can get a good feel for what it entails.

He finds a good balance of keeping someones interest that works in EMS by imparting experience and wisdom acquired over the years and also writing in a way in which you can easily empathize to the point where its like you are working the call yourself. This book came highly recommended and I can honestly say it did not disappoint.

I purchased this book for my boyfriend who is a paramedic. Soon after I found myself flipping through the pages.

I've always worried for him while he's in the field and am always so proud of the work he does. This book reassured those feelings and allowed my to have a glimpse of what happens throughout his day.

A Paramedic's Diary: Life and Death in London

This book is written as if someone is sitting across the table telling stories which reminds me of many late nights over coffee with him because he's too worked up over a shift to sleep. This book hit home for me. I was quite pleased to learn that problems faced with Paramedics in England are pretty much the same as those faced by those here in the states.

I found Stuart Gray's style of writing very fluid and enjoyable. The only thing I can honestly say in the negative is I was not expecting the subject manner to be based in England.
