When Madison and Behold first arrived at Murder House, Constance was once again being annoyed by housemaid Moira Frances Conroy , with whom she now shared eternity. Her soul gets a happy ending, reunited with her mom after all these years. Constance, meanwhile, seemed content to live out the rest of eternity among familiar faces, including those of three of her children—Tate, the physically deformed Beauregard, and a little girl with no eyes. She and Constance remain pals. So there you have it.

Whether this is the end of that story or if these characters will get more screentime as the season progresses and Michael actually does enact the apocalypse remains to be seen. So stay tuned.

Another fantastic thing about this episode is that it remembers that American Horror Story actually used to be scary! The show can get so caught up in its premise and the spectacle of its characters and camp that it sometimes neglects actual scares. American Horror Story has definitely gotten by in the absence of Lange, but it really is nice to have her back. She cuts everyone down at the knees and gives absolutely zero fucks. A lot of people get their happily ever afters. Thankfully it just so happens to be information that everyone wants to hear.

This gender divide and how each parent differently impacts Michael also speaks to the larger themes of this season that have pit gender against one another.

However, both parents ultimately give up on Michael and this could be partly responsible for why he embraces his dark side. The uber expository structure remains, but Harmon presents a much more complicated case study of Michael, but still a picture of pure evil. Case solved!
