On the same level can also be found lockers including Freeman's , HEV Suit consoles, restrooms, a cafeteria where a meal can be destroyed in a microwave oven, and a guarded access to Sector B. That section, located on the lower level and accessed from the first level through an elevator, features a covered laser running along a corridor, and other features such as the Anti-Mass Spectrometer.

In this room can be found two Ionization Chambers. After the Resonance Cascade, one of them is broken and a Headcrab teleports. In this room can be found three devices containing Plasma Cells, one of them glowing red. After the Resonance Cascade, the red and the middle one are broken, and Headcrabs teleport in the middle and third ones. Sealed with a blast door, two retinal scanners must be operated to open it.

It is covered during the Decay chapter Dual Access. The Registration Scan booth is used by Gina Cross and Colette Green to re-register themselves in the security database after the system crash has occurred earlier. To proceed, an elevator must be taken. It is located in a large shaft where two other elevators are seen working, one of them being used by the G-Man, in his only appearance in Decay. These elevators probably link the three main Sector C levels together. This small room mostly houses computer servers, monitored by a single scientist.

It is supervised by Richard Keller. This is where Gordon Freeman is accommodated, and where Gina Cross and Colette Green travel to find a security guard having access to the codes to lift the air traffic lockdown during the Decay chapter Domestic Violence. Sector C is patrolled by security guards from the Area 3 Medium Security Facilities located in a section of Sector C featuring both security and scientific areas. The upper level of that area is connected to the Black Mesa Transit System on two sides.

The first side is the access point for security guards, the other is for scientists. When arriving, a security guard can go to the High-Energy Particle Labs, then go on to the other Black Mesa Transit System connection, and take a tram to Sector G , or reach the Sector by going through the maintenance areas. One can also access a small lounge with vending machines, located above the central lobby.

The central lobby with its security guard welcome desk is located on the lower level, and this is where security guards have to report when showing up. That level also include the Personnel Facilities for the security guards, including lockers, showers and toilets. A part of the upper level can only be accessed through the lower level, with an elevator.

The test chamber disaster sequence at the beginning of Half-Life was built by John Guthrie and Kelly Bailey in a weekend, during which they worked for 48 hours straight. After going home at the end of the weekend and coming back in the offices on Monday, "still in a zombielike state", Guthrie and Bailey were glad to see that the rest of the team loved the sequence after playing through it.

As you are wandering, check for grates and ducts - remember you have a crowbar and crowbars are meant to be used. This was a great read - and the author really seems to know her stuff on the scientific issues. The book reminded me a bit of Jurassic Park which I also loved. The first half is spent trying to figure out the mystery and the second half turns into a faster-paced action story. The ending felt a bit anti-climactic though, but this wasn't enough to make me take a star off. Prehistoric future The characters are very believable as real people. The plot and storyline are fast paced and hold your attention.

I will recommend it to people in my reading group. Feb 18, Bob rated it liked it Shelves: Things go wrong in a private game preserve and research facility in the great plains of the U. Genetically engineered animals are dying of some strange disease. Worse yet, one has escaped and has infected the livestock in the surrounding area.

And even worse than that, people are becoming infected and dying too, and it's spreading fast. And it's up to a CDC analyst and a local vet to help stop the pandemic. Not much new here. Michael Crichton does this much better. But on the bright side, thi Things go wrong in a private game preserve and research facility in the great plains of the U. But on the bright side, this was a very fast and easy reading book. The ending was less than satisfying, but up till then i enjoyed it. Disappointed I wanted to read this because it was supposed to be like "Jurassic Park". Too much disease analysis for me.

I kept waiting for that gut wrenching dino to terrorize a community. Clones of extinct animals?

What could possibly go wrong? I found this book to be an excellent blend of of science, mystery, and very ancient history, along with current farm veterinary practices. These are all areas I'm interested in. They are all woven together into a nicely taut thriller. I'd really enjoy reading more books in this vein. A thriller for sure This was an exciting book to read and definitely kept my attention and interest.

The characters were fun and definitely kept the excitement coming. The many scenarios that were described by this author and her story were daunting and definitely hard to believe. What an unbelievable imagination! Fast paced The scary part is it is conceivable that greed and science could create a disease while trying to bring back something extinct or make something new. We have already created killer bees, imported animals that became bigger problems than what they were imported to control, brought back diseases thought eradicated, etc. Believable is more frightening than make believe.

Thist and Turns Twist and turns on almost every page. I do not want to give any spoilers. One thread leads to another and another. I liked that the transitions from one to another are smooth and not jarring. You will not be disappointed. I was delighted with the character development. Best free read EVER! If this is a thriller then I know why I don't read many. Just another take on a worn out premise. Greed and science are bad, government is good. The only sympathetic characters are the animals. Pre-historic What an amazing story. I so enjoyed this book. The concept of the story, I suppose could happen under the right circumstances.

But let's hope not, but it made an enjoyable story. Good but It was good but quarter into it had to force myself to read it, halfway really had to work at it stop at 75 just couldn't go any further. Normal due to that I rate that as a 1 star but felt that wasn't the case here. Wow Like my mother always said, "It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature. Does breed won the day? This very readable page turner brings you to your answer. I thoroughly enjoyed this terrifying, sad and joyous book.

Dec 20, Robert R. Love your pets now. The writer takes you on heartache journey. Technology out grows common sense. Greed sets the pace. Humanity of man on the brink of disaster. Interesting and exciting read. I couldn't put the book down, especially the last 10 chapters. Good story but rushed ending I liked this genetic engineering novel. The first three quarters of the book were really good.

However, the last quarter, including the ending, felt rushed. Nice tech-disaster tale Great characterization and dialog. Good story plot and follow through. Ending a bit abrupt but satisfied nonetheless. May 12, Jo rated it liked it. A clever plot line and enjoyable story. The writing was generally ok however I did find it quite clumsy in parts.

I don't know about the science involved, but Phoenix Sullivan's story seems like one that could happen in real life.

Good read U liked this book. It's a good story and flows nicely. I am biased in liking anything to do with the resurrection of extinct animals. Give it a go. May 14, Nikki Hartline rated it it was amazing. It is a great book. It makes you think about many of the possible things that science can do, but maybe shouldn't do. Page-turner Enjoyed this suspenseful sci-fi that was a believable scenario of Genetic manipulation.

Framed squarely in the sight, not two hundred feet away, the white tiger sat on its haunches, its lower jaw drooping, ribs rippling under a mat of chocolate-striped fur.
