Aug 1, This is the story of how Samuel McCurdy Kirkpatrick, a Confederate Cavalry veteran of the Civil War, created an agricultural empire at Cahaba.

As Cahaba fell into decay, Samuel gradually bought town lots and the surrounding land and gradually built an extensive agricultural empire.

The book draws on official archives and records, published and private sources, family recollections, and the author's memories of times spent AT CAHABA during the final years of the Kirkpatrick era. Meador was born in Selma, Alabama. Included in his illustrious career is a tour of duty in Korea, an Assistant Attorney General in the U.

He currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He is one of the few people left who have first-hand knowledge of Cahaba, the first capital of the state of Alabama.
