At least some amusement parks offer a discount to vets on certain holidays or holiday weekends. I believe there is a clear division between draft era veterans and all volunteer veterans. Draft era veterans may have volunteered or compelled but either way there was an clear expectation they would serve. The volunteer veterans served without the draft cloud hanging over their head.

I am constantly amazed the services have been able to attract so many volunteers to serve so well. Peace or war time, the possibility is always there that something bad can happen.

I served and have a service connected disability, but I was never in combat. I feel guilty getting any recognition for being a veteran. But people are always telling me that I deserve it because I was willing to serve and sacrifice. I could never compare my injury to what combat veterans have been through.

But my family and I did sacrifice a lot for me to serve. Thank you for your service and sacrifices to help protect my freedom!!! Why would you feel guilty about not being a combat veteran. Be proud of it and take advantage of any and all benefits and discounts available. I make no distinction between his service and mine,. I was in combat.
