Although in theory applicable to people, and a good idea for making a list of thirteen, I suggest to actually reach people, perhaps use some examples. First, think about someone who reads this article. For one, suicidal people are probably not jsut thinking about the vague concepts of death. Highly detailed, personal, specific things that occurred in their life. Besides, anyone can write something vague and make it sound beautiful.

That has nothing to do with actual application. Give a real life situation, detailed thoughts and events, give this piece some LIFE. Which may also sound vague, as we all have things that are really specific to us. But I think rather than being vague for a larger audience, being more specific in your audience and details would allow us to appreciate the quality more than quantity of viewership. Personally, the one about living for others, although it makes sense in theory, can really trigger people, as other commenters said.

You can find me fawning over pens, papers, dictions, mangas, random houses, dirt-smudged buildings, tiles, tables, chairs, etc.

I think perhaps making the list more actionable would help. Really hit home on exploration or something. I often stay indoors, but I do enjoy going outside, although rarely would I plan to and purposely by myself head out the door. In this case, you could say the door feels like a barrier.

Or the cold. Or my bones.

Thank you for these reminders. The show definitely showed us there are plenty of reasons as to why someone would commit suicide but your list proves that there are also plenty of reasons to live. Esoteric, feel-good bullplop like this is useless and offers no help whatsoever to anyone who is seriously considering taking the "express exit".

Were I suicidal I could give a trainload of counterpoints to each and every statement on this list. Number 4, for example. Not everyone has others who truly care about them, or even necessarily give a tiny little damn. And number Suppose every day is just yet another opportunity to experience negativity or pain? Then what's the point of suffering through yet another day of the same? And number 7 is almost laughable. You'd be amazed how quickly your "friends" will run for the hills if you go to them for genuine help with a real problem.

At best you can expect some verbal version of the list above. First, this is an article that explains general reasons why to live. If there is someone seriously contemplating an exit short blogs about living are not the place to look - a professional seriously needs to be called. What may be "laughable" to you is in no way "laughable" to me. Although not all "friends" cant be leaned on - there are friends that are more than happy to be that shoulder to lean on - I have been that friend myself. While friends don't miraculously help you feel better about your situation, and neither may your family, the source of support - in merely knowing you're not alone is helpful for many.

While I am sure your comments are specific to you - I just want to point out that your feelings are not universal to everyone. Even more, who knows, perhaps you have family or friends that are willing to be there for you, they just need to be reached out to. Good job proving the point of the comment you were just arguing against.

You are so right Nogales really hits the nail on the head with her insights and redirecting the discussion on suicide. So much has been made of the 13 Reasons Why show it is refreshing to read her take on the issue and turning this into a more positive approach.

If I died in my house I'd only be found 3 months later during a rental inspection. Some gift. If I had the receipt I'd return it. I'm sorry you feel that way about your life, but your response made me laugh. Even though your life may not be a great gift, your talent for writing is. You should consider becoming a professional writer if you aren't already.
