The playing field is not always even. Sometimes the rules are unspoken, and the path is not always well marked. That is not to say that women are not qualified or that we are less capable in the workplace because we are female. But to deny the challenges - even barriers - that we all still face is to ignore a major component of the dynamics of business in our society today. And what we believe about us and our abilities shapes their responses to us.

Finally, the responses we receive from others come back around to reinforce the original belief. In my mind, this is a major issue for women and why we tend to be in the less powerful positions. We present ourselves all too often with apologies, disclaimers and sidebars that diminish our power and pride in our own work and achievements. Release your internal brake , Scumaci says. This will truly change the rest of your life OK, I didn't even know this book existed until my job was eliminated, I was sent home on severance and unemployment checks, and am trying to look for a new job. I have been in the corporate world since , starting out as a clerk, and now am at the executive assistant level.

I have applied for many wonderful-sounding opportunities, and have been interviewed, but the doors have not opened yet. I am 60 years old, look more like ish, but I am facing something I have never had to face before: I could tell I needed to learn something more before God would open that door to my new job.

I have read every review to date, and I totally concur with all of them except the one negative response. Not only do some professionals I guess I am referring to men not take women seriously, but when they have to answer to a highly successful female, they consider her a [ And forget it, the rest of us females are either not taken seriously, or, if we are upwardly mobile, we realize that we have to play tough, really tough sometimes, just to be respected. My hat is off to you, Dondi. Thank you for being so used of God, and for helping us to not only succeed professionally, but to bring glory to our Sweet Lord in the process.

I own this book and I love it. If you are a woman in business, this is a must have. It's a brilliant reference book that needs to sit on your shelf and be available to you for any situation. In this book, you'll learn how to better manage your time or your relationship to time! I could go on and on! As a business owner I have already put many of the ideas and suggestions into play and I want more! My book is filled with notes in the margins, highlighted sections and bookmarks. It's been better studied than half of my text books from college.

The author feels like a friend, a mentor, and a personal trainer all wrapped up together as she encourages and exhorts you on how to be a woman AND succeed. Can't wait for more from this author!! In preparation for leading a workplace mentoring program for women, I read--cover to cover--about 30 books on the challenges women face in the workplace. This book is the winner of the bunch--hands down. I'm a 29 year veteran of workplace politics and I can testify that Scumaci gets it right.

She has no agenda feministic "activism" or otherwise except to help women succeed. She provides real world advice for real workplace problems that will produce real results for real women in real jobs. She "gets it"-- you can't control the people you work with, you can only control your own actions. This book wisely focuses on how you can modify and improve your communication skills and emotional intelligence in the workplace for better results. I'm sending best wishes to all the women out there trying to reach their full potential on the job.

This book is a good example of "Don't judge the book by the cover. However, I found the content of the book very relevant to my work experience in a traditional workplace. I am a manager, and I have had several of my female manager colleagues read this book. We all agree we would have liked to have had this book 20 years ago! One point to consider - The book is written by a Christian author and there are several Bible quotes used.

However, this is not an evangelical book. I have used it as a coaching tool, but I always tell my teammates about the Bible references and let the individuals decide if they want to read the book. My younger female professionals that have read the book have appreciated its contents.
