The Confessions of an American Black Widow: A True Story of Greed, Lust and a Murderous Wife

She seemed to have no filters whatsoever ingrained into her psyche. It amazed me that those around her seemed to take her whole stinking attitude as just Sharon being Sharon pretty much and they overlooked a heck of a lot of appalling behaviour! I have another of this author's books downloaded and I'm hoping it has a different editor!! View all 4 comments. This is the first full length Greg Olsen book I've read and will definitely not be the last. I cant believe how Sharon managed to get away with so much for so long.

The only bad point I have is that the book jumped from past to present which annoyed me at first but I got used to it throughout the book. Jan 06, Stephanie rated it liked it. I liked the story but am a little skeptical on the author. I get the subject was a woman of VERY questionable character but his constant pointing out she was a "slut", "whore" and more got to be a bit much.

I kind of was to read another of his books to see if this was just this book or he really is a sexist. This book is well researched and Gregg Olsen did a great job of telling the whole story from beginning to end. After reading this book it is almost unbelievable to the mind that a story like this could be true, but it is. I pray for the families of Glen and Perry, I pray that Gary and Sharon's sentences provided them with some measure of peace. Sharon and Gary deserve to die in prison never to breathe a single breathe while free again.

Reading this book it crossed my mind that Sharon is the true definition of a sociopath, no remorse, everything is about her, she's the victim. Gary crosses me as a man caught up in something much bigger than he could handle, I don't think he took any enjoyment from the murders and I think the second he got mixed up with Sharon he was screwed because she saw him as a pawn she could use whenever she wanted.

I also feel sorry for Sharon's kids because I truly don't think she ever loved them, I don't think she is capable of loving anyone other than herself. I pray her kids are living their lives somewhere happy, healthy, successful and most of all away from her without contact to never look back again! Overall, a great true crime read. Gregg Olsen did a great job in writing and researching this book! If you are like me, and read true crime because you find the police investigation or psychological examination of the criminal mind interesting, then you will probably be as disappointed in this book as I was.

Instead of focusing on what could have been the gripping aspects of this case, the author chose to waste space on all the vile vulgar descriptions of people surrounding Nelson. How many times do readers need to hear this, that and the other person call her a 'slut' and a 'whore'? How many If you are like me, and read true crime because you find the police investigation or psychological examination of the criminal mind interesting, then you will probably be as disappointed in this book as I was.

How many details do we need to read about her sexual conquests? It could have been a much better read had the author not gone onto minute details of her sexual escapades but instead examined the personality disorders so prevalent in this woman's life. She seemed to have narcissistic personality disorder, or antisocial personality disorder, hypersexuality, sexual addiction.

Was she a true sociopath? How was she able to entrap at least four men who could not give her up, what we're their issues? And what about the insurance investigation into the death of her doctor husband? Why did they not fight the pay-out when they clearly suspected foul play? This book could have been so much better. I had not previously heard of this case, so this held interest in me for that. Traditionally crime stories are told from the viewpoint of the investigation, or determining the character of the guilty characters and the parties around here.

This one only skimmed the investigation and focused on her. At times I couldn't determine whether the author loved or hated her, not because he remained without bias, but because he was either repeating how she could have such a powerful hold over men because I had not previously heard of this case, so this held interest in me for that.

Want to add to the discussion?

At times I couldn't determine whether the author loved or hated her, not because he remained without bias, but because he was either repeating how she could have such a powerful hold over men because of her sexual prowess or that she was nothing but a selfish 'whore'. It left you wondering where the police were after the first death. You can't blame the withholding of information by the insurance company as the only guilty party because the author showed how everyone in town believed in foul play.

I'm glad I found out about the case, but after finished reading, I was left with more questions than answers. I thought this was one of the most poorly written books I've ever read. I read the kindle e-edition. I'm surprised that Gregg Olsen put his name on it. I'm not opposed to foul language but some of the crude language was just literarily unnecessary and sounded ridiculous to me in use in the book. I thought the formatting of the book was poor with the skipping back and forth. I think the writer thought this style was again a great style i I thought this was one of the most poorly written books I've ever read.

I think the writer thought this style was again a great style in writing, but it failed totally in this book. It was not a useful technique at all and didn't lend to the clarity or interest of the book. It was interesting to read about these horrible persons who commit such horrendous acts. I do like to read well written non-fiction crime books, but this definitely was not one of them.

Interesting story The story of Sharon - the Black Widow - was very interesting At times the narrative dragged and the same descriptive words used over and over were repetitious. I found it difficult to believe the author could know exactly what each of the characters was thinking But the basic parts of the story were there , and almost hard to believe that one person could bring so much heartache and destruction to so many families. Sharon and her lover Gary are shown in two photos at the end of Interesting story The story of Sharon - the Black Widow - was very interesting At times the narrative dragged and the same descriptive words used over and over were repetitious.

Sharon and her lover Gary are shown in two photos at the end of the book. I guess this is where the old saying fits: Ok, she was on wheels. I like most of Gregg Olsen's books but this one got a little repetitive. It was like the author latched onto this "Bitch on Wheels" quote and loved to pepper the book with it often.

It's even the title. Also, I think we could decipher that She'd was a promiscuous home wrecker but she was getting called a slut repetitively. I'm not sure that the murders and the victims got enough words dedicated to them but rather Sher's sex life was gone over ad nauseum. Ok book, just not Ok, she was on wheels. Ok book, just not one of the better ones I've read recently.

leondumoulin.nl: Customer reviews: Bitch on Wheels: The True Story of Black Widow Killer Sharon Nelson

I am a huge fan of true crime books and have read a great many. Sometimes they waffle on about aspects that have no bearing on the crime itself - this book does not do that. This book is very unusual in that the killers plead guilty so the trial portion is missing. So although written in a very clear way the ending is rather abrupt. I also really do like the photographs of the people involved so I get a feel for who they are not the gruesome death photos however when reading this on my kindle I am a huge fan of true crime books and have read a great many.

I also really do like the photographs of the people involved so I get a feel for who they are not the gruesome death photos however when reading this on my kindle they are sadly lacking. Could hardly wait for it to be over I was interested in this book as I enjoy true crime and this one takes place in Colorado, my home state. But this is so poorly written that I could hardly wait for it to be over. The author jumps around so much that it was difficult to keep up. He also would begin talking about a new person with absolutely no introductory explanation as to where they fit in the story.

I will never read another of this author's books, no matter how enticing it may sound. This book was so sad and unbelievable, how someone like Sharon can have so much hate towards other humans who loved her for whatever reason. Nobody deserves to be treated like a dog and die such horrible deaths.

My heart goes out to the victims and the families who had to endure such tragedy. Do people think about how their actions will affect the kids in this situation? Guess not but this is a fabulous read Incredibly too long and the excessive length didn't even cover all of the important details. I learned more about her breasts than I did of her victims' entire lives. But I guess that's what happens when a man writes a true crime book about a female killer- her body type is both desired by him but also implied to be part of her evil. When people think of evil it's usually a male since women are supposed to be more empathetic and motherly.

She is manipulative, greedy, selfish and yes, evil. I'm always fascinated by how easily most people can ignore their instincts and look the other way which seems to happen a lot in Sher's life. In the end, she ruins many lives including her own. If human beings intrigue you, then read this true story. True Crime masterpiece This is an excellent true crime book by Gregg Olsen. He details black widow Sharon Nelson through several relationships, marriages and the two deaths by murder of her husbands.

Sharon is an evil sociopathic female who believes the world revolves around her. She will stop at nothing to get who and what she wants. She is a unfeeling, selfish woman who epitomizes a black widow spider, beautiful and deadly. This is a must read for the true crime aficionados. This is a good story, worthy of telling; however, the author's chosen style was out of sequence, which resulted in a disjointed story.

I often thought I skipped a few pages because the story was so fragmented. Once you get past the writing style, it's a story worth reading. The characters were well developed, and the research and first hand accounts brought the story to life. Good read I was amazed at this woman because it is a carbon copy of my Ex-daughter in law..

She also just like in this bio. Got several men to do crazy things. Had several at a time all at her beck and call. All was about her. But ugly as sin. I wondered how but my son looking back sea the sex was good just like this story. Most were left with nervous breakdown or trying to commit suicide. Married 9 times at last count. This shows there are many black widows out there. What a mean selfish woman. Her mindset is if she don't like them: She deserved to get caught, certainly a Bitch with capital B. I thought the writing by Mr. Olsen was fantastic and never a dull part.

I've read only 2 books by this author and looking forward to more in the future. Pretty good and true crime craziness. This story was new for me. I got lost in the story now and then when it went back and forth in time. Other than that it was really incredible, as well as sad for the lives she ruined. Also kind of sad how stupid the guys were. I mean looking at her pics I just didn't see the so called beauty.

Nothing satisfied Sharon--and I do mean nothing. Even having her lover murder two of her husbands, that still wasn't enough. This woman is pure, pure evil at its worst, and yet, she was content to live with lies and murderous thoughts to get her by. This is one sick bitch to say the least! I think calling Sharon a bitch is too kind a word for her. I call her the She-Devil in disguise, at least for some. There were some men who could see right through her, just too bad the poor unsuspecting husbands she managed to snag, didn't see it.

Outstanding true-crime writing and reading! I hate giving negative book reviews, but in this case I feel I must. The question of how a woman, known to her community as promiscuous and amoral, ensnared two men into marrying her and got another man to kill them both is highly intriguing and should have made for a great read.

Unfortunately, the author, gives us little insight into her victims and her co-conspirator beyond explaining that Nelson was pinup girl beautiful and sexy. His style of narration and his transitions from one scene to another is abrupt and difficult to follow. Olsen makes it clear that she was a bully, she lied and stole without any guilt, she had an inflated sense of entitlement, none of which is a surprise, but I could not get much insight on how intelligent she was.

Was she just a dumb bimbo, who got by on luck, and manipulation? By Manderson on June 27, I cannot believe anyone would leave a bad review for this book. It is one you pick up and you don't even want your kids or anyone to bother you. This woman is a genuine nut case and it just makes you wonder why anyone would let her get away with the things she did without screaming out to the world and letting the world know the kind of woman she is.

It is an amazing story, very well written and you will not be disappointed. By TJ in Texas on February 25, The story itself was interesting however the quality control was terrible. For example, in chapter 14 it goes from one paragraph in which the killer asks his victim to pull over so he can take a leak to the very next paragraph the killer is sure his victim is dead to the very next paragraph the killer is home in another town running an errand with his wife! I am assuming this a quality control issue and not the author.

Either way, a key part of the book the murder is missing. By SMac on March 28, If you like true crime stories, you'll like this one. The author takes you on a trip that grips you from the very beginning. While no one can explain the cold-blooded Sharon Nelson, he draws the reader into her life, from childhood though multiple affairs and marriages, both real and staged.

It's a fascinating read and I reccommend it. The only problem I had with the book, is one of style. Frequently there were no page breaks between one sceen and the next. With so many characters in this story, it was difficult to keep up when the location, characters and time fame changed with out a new paragraph or break. It stopped me several times and slowed me down wondering, What? We were here talking to this couple and now we're here with someone else, different town, different time. Distracting, but it didn't stop me from wanting to get to the end of the book and find out what happened to the 'Bitch On Wheels.

This story is so absorbing and fascinating, that it makes up for the fact that the book has a distracting flaw: Before I caught on to this, I was wondering why the author, without warning, shifted the narrative from one scene to the next, disconcerting the reader.

Skibs awesome mix

When I realized what was happening, I understood that the problem was not bad writing or bad editing and I was able to understand the sudden shifts. Also, there are many typos and errors that could have benefited from a good proofreader.

Another disappointing misstep worth pointing out is that there are no photos, at least in this printing of the book. Much is made of the black widow's physical appearance, but all we get to see of her is a small photograph of her face on the cover. This is why I give it four stars instead of five, which, for story alone, it deserves. As for the story itself, this true crime tale is so incredible, that if it were a novel you'd stop reading it and label it "too fantastical". But as we read we learn that truth is, indeed, stranger than fiction.

How did these otherwise intelligent men allow themselves to fall for this outrageous and manipulative woman? The author does a good job of getting us into the characters' motivations and the story grows more riveting with each page. All in all, this is a top-notch true crime story that will keep you turning pages well into the night!

Starkey on January 7, I agree with so many others that the story was great - the book wasn't. After reading a chapter, there would be a chapter thrown in that was totally out of context telling of an earlier event as if someone was helping him pull it together and he just decided to slap their chapter in somewhere.

This is a story of a sad woman who was brought up in the strict Seventh-Day Adventist church and nearly for4ced to marry an upcoming preacher. Neither loved one another, and Sharon seemed to be searching for love in all the wrong places to satisfy her insatiable sexual urges. She had a beautiful body, a charismatic personality, and one of those horrible women who make a game of winning men away from their loving wives.

She seemed to be the type of woman everyone adored - until they really got to know her and her evil ways. I enjoyed it but glad I got it on the sale kindle. Customers also viewed these items.
