English term or phrase: Screw vs Propeller. I had recently a discussion with a customer about whether the propulsion device for a ship was a "screw" or a "propeller".

In aerospace the device in question is without question a "propeller", and I have always heard "propeller" for aircraft and "screw" for ships. After consulting Webster's, I found that "screw" is also a "propeller", and the definition in Webster's of "propeller" is: "a device having a revolving hub with radiating blades, for propelling an airplane, ship, etc.

I agree. It might sound as someone who wants to appear as they are in the know, when they are really not.
