Karen grew up in Central Los Angeles, California. This book reflects my life in that I lost my father when I was 10 years old and life was never the same as my mother checked out of reality.

    My two older siblings were taken away for different reasons, so I found myself taking care of the family. We ate from the back of grocery stores, I babysat, ran errands for neighbors, then when I got older I worked at the corner market. At times I even shoplifted to make ends meet. I no longer felt like a child, and I so wanted to be loved and look for it in all the wrong places.

    I always believed there was a God, so no matter what happened next, drugs, sex, rape, heart break, or loss of friendship, I always prayed to God, "haven't I been through enough.
