It is one of the best books I have read all year. Mar 03, Rebecca Fyfe rated it it was amazing. I think I cried not the pretty-looking-dainty-little-sniff-crying either, but the full-on-bawling-red-faced-tears-streaming-crying through the first half of the book.

The subject of a child's death, for me, as a mother, is a heartbreaking one. The story is lovely and, once I stopped crying, I started to notice the beauty in how Lisa Shambrook describes the emotions, the people, and the friendships and family relationships involved in little Freya's life. The book left me feeling uplifted and I I think I cried not the pretty-looking-dainty-little-sniff-crying either, but the full-on-bawling-red-faced-tears-streaming-crying through the first half of the book.

Beneath the Rainbow | The Last Krystallos

When seven-year old Freya is killed in a tragic car accident, her family and community is devastated at the senseless loss. Even in fiction, we recognize that seeing this cycle enhances our memories and brings us together as flawed and fragile human beings. Beneath the Rainbow is beautiful. Not only in the carefully crafted prose, but the imagery Shambrook evokes is stunning and serene, even in the wake of tragedy.

All of which I found realistic and heartwarming. It's not "bad" per se , but there is an undeniable religious subtext in Beneath the Rainbow. I could see how that might bother some people right from the get-go. My only other complaint besides making me cry How could you, Lisa! I highly recommend Beneath the Rainbow to everyone who enjoys emotional novels. As for the review of this dreamlike, spellbinding book that opens with a hell of a sequence, which I won't mention here just read it and you will be hooked , the book moves onto a possible version of the afterlife, and I have to say that in order to remain connected to the story, it is best to read it in one go.

The book is not that long, so you should be able to do it. What author Lisa Shambrook has done so well is give us a convincing, well detailed version of an alternate reality; a state of being that we don't understand because our days are filled with finding the pounds to pay for stuff that society says we needs. To hell with all that!

Sometimes, an author comes along with a rare and special talent. The author has also penned further books and it will be a treat to get around to them one day. Another thing to mention is how beautifully the whole book is presented. The author has taken time to make it a stunning experience for the reader. Bring Beneath the Rainbow to the top of your reading list.

I think that Ms. Shambrook did an amazing job with the child's POV, and also in the handling of such a delicate topic, which she did with great sensitivity.

The story takes us into the magical realm, and yet there's a realistic portrayal of characters who are well-rounded and believable. It's a fine balance which the author pulls off quite effectively.

I read this book some time ago and realised I hadn't reviewed; oops. Even after all this time, Freya's story as stayed with me.

Lisa achieves the impossible. She writes about the worse possible event and its aftermath in the most beautiful and sensitive way. But most of all, this story is about hope for the future for all who were touched by Freya. I loved all the characters and their stories and how the narrative weaved effortlessly in an almost poetic way.

Already a fan of Lisa's lyrical prose I read this book some time ago and realised I hadn't reviewed; oops. I was shocked by the first paragraph but then enchanted for the rest of the book. I was captivated by Freya and her family and friends and quite simply fell under this writer's spell. If I tried to explain the plot it would sound trite and not do justice to this lovely gem of a read. Read it for yourself - I'm off to download a copy of Shambrook's second book.
