Specifically the overtones that your husband needs you as an outlet and therefore regardless of your feelings you owe it to your man to get in the mood, stat. I thought it was weird that these deeply religious people, who hold sex as something sacred and special, nevertheless decided having sex before really loving the person was a super great idea. I also thought the frank heart-to-hearts between mother and daughter about their sex lives read as strange and uncomfortable. I know every family is different, but the strong emphasis the author put on modesty, not seeing even partial nudity etc.

This book is okay in the following circumstance: I wouldn't seek out this book, but you don't have to avoid it either. In that context, this would probably read as a good romance interwoven with uplifting messages. The cover of my edition was not embarrassing. No one needs to know that what you are reading is not great literature.

Feb 05, Jessica rated it liked it Shelves: I haven't read many of Lori Wick's books. Only her yellow Rose series and maybe a few stand alone books. I found I struggled to rate this book. At times, it was really great. I loved the Christian values, I liked the characters, and the plotline was unique compared with so many generic reads these days.

However, what had me torn was all the intimate scenes. Certainly I think it was just enough without being too detailed, however, the writing was blush worthy at times. Normally such writing would I haven't read many of Lori Wick's books. Normally such writing would bother me, especially since I'm not a huge fan of romance books. However, the fact that the couple was married made a big difference to me. Normally, I get so annoyed with characters who flirt and kiss when they don't have any serious intentions of being in a relationship together.

It was a nice change to see a couple married first and then finding their way to love and happiness. I loved both the characters of Shelby and Nick. I loved that they were both already believers and also that they were both really patient and dedicated to making their marriage work. I also was happily surprised to see the honesty on Shelby's part. While I've never been married, and even more so, not married a prince, I found I could relate with Shelby.

The only thing I didn't like was, as I said, all the intimate scenes. I would say this is definitely a book that a younger teen girl shouldn't be reading. Feb 18, Caryn Jack rated it did not like it. Oh my word what a long winded piece of drivel!!!! Seriously this woman cant write. I only got through 2 thirds before I wanted to shoot myself in the face.

Usually i don't write really mean reviews but I'm going to make an exception for this book because of all the religious rubbish. Religion does NOT, i repeat, does NOT play a major part in fiction and this is coming from someone who has been religious all her life. Religion is a touchy subject at the best of times because of all the different Oh my word what a long winded piece of drivel!!!! Religion is a touchy subject at the best of times because of all the different beliefs out there so to mention it almost every third page?

It got to the point where if someone mentioned the word "Lord" I skipped whole paragraphs just because It was so irritating and felt as if the author wrote this book for the sole purpose of ramming her beliefs down the readers throat. Worrying is a sin? Also everyone is too perfect. Her characters lack passion and are pale colourless imitations. Maybe if the story wasn't so boring I would of finished. I give one star for plot line because the general idea is good but that's it. If you write a book for the purpose of publishing you need to write something your readers will like people!!!

If you're into long winded religious babble where the characters are either vaguely happy, vaguely worried or cry a lot and the heroine is a spineless ninny this is the book for you!!! How it got a 4 star rating I'll never know. Jul 17, Judine rated it it was amazing Shelves: Lori Wick found perhaps the only way to have an arranged marriage work at the turn of the 21st century: I find Nicolai's struggle between loving his dead wife and loving his new bride to be heart-felt and believable.

I adore Shelby, but don't always think her not sharing her feelings about certain things works. Still a great late night read.

Mar 29, Haley S rated it it was amazing Shelves: To uphold a long-cherished tradition of their country, Shelby and Nikolai agree to an arranged marriage. But while Nikolai is a perfect gentleman at public functions, he remains distant and shy at home, leaving Shelby to ponder the inner workings of his heart. There was no action whatsoever in this book, which, in this case, is a good thing.

It was completely centered Summary: It was completely centered around Shelby and Nikolai's relationship with God and eachother. I really enjoyed everything that happened within this book. However, the first half of the book was a bit boring and annoying to me.

Thankfully, it easily picked up from there. I enjoyed these characters a lot, but I had minor problems with them. At times, it felt like they were a bit unreal, and couldn't be real people. Sometimes, they were a bit to upfront. It's okay for one true fight to happen, not just storming off for unknown reasons. This was a great book. Hopefully some time in the future, I will be able to read some more of Lori Wick's books. This is obviously chick lit, and is perfect for YA and adult readers.

Apr 06, Angela rated it liked it Recommends it for: Though it reads rather more like an episode of "Touched by an Angel" than a romance novel, I was finally able to settle back and enjoy this book by accepting what the author intended it to be: The characters - especially the supporting cast - were all a little too perfect, and the plot was rather contrived.

Wick, however, was able to mold the circumstances to convey heartfelt sincerity and realistic emotional conflict.

I actually learned a lot Though it reads rather more like an episode of "Touched by an Angel" than a romance novel, I was finally able to settle back and enjoy this book by accepting what the author intended it to be: I actually learned a lot from it, and even felt that I appreciated my own wonderful husband more after reading it. I would have stamped it with four stars, except that I felt like Wick went over the top with the Christian aspect of the plot - specifically, by adding an entire, random, pointless side plot about a little boy who wanders in and out of the story a bit and, through his associations with the royal family, comes to accept the Gospel.

It not only didn't add to the main plot, it actually detracted from the emotional energy of the story - it even felt manipulative, as if it had only been added to illustrate what good, nice people the royal family were and that they were the kind of people who bore their testimony often.

Sep 08, Lady rated it did not like it Shelves: The story isn't a bad premise but the characters are shallow and inauthentic and continually spout eye roll inducing dialog. There is no conflict in the whole book. If Twilight is a year-old girl's fantasy, this is a year-old Puritan's fantasy. I'm not trying to be mean, but The Princess is simplistic and immature both emotionally and s lame - that's the best word I can think of for this book. I'm not trying to be mean, but The Princess is simplistic and immature both emotionally and spiritually.

Mar 28, Brooke rated it it was amazing. Okay so here is another classic on my list. I have read this book probably 7 or 8 times total. It is an easy read but very enjoyable. I love the idea of a modern day arranged marriage and how that would work in today's world.

There are a few times when the book is a bit cheesy but I still love this story and the characters. Next to Sophie's Heart this is my favorite Lori Wick book. Sep 05, Alycia rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Anyone who likes romance books. I loved this book, it took me five hours to finish it. What makes this book so special is that it's a modern day fairy tale, and Nicki and 'Red' spend more time developing their friendship and how well they know each other, rather than focusing all on A very good book.

Jul 30, ijeoma Agbaje rated it did not like it. I've only ever read one Lori Wick book aside from this one "Sophie's Choice" and it was pretty good. For this story the characters just felt too stiff. All the dialogue here came off as uncomfortable and just showed the characters had no chemistry maybe that's what she was going for. Apr 28, Angela rated it it was amazing Recommended to Angela by: I LOVE this book. It's a modern day fairy tale princess story.

Shelby agrees to an arranged marriage to the prince of a created country. They meet for the first time on their wedding day and through their faith in God they learn to love each other. One of the best contemporary books I've ever read. Jun 16, Kathy rated it it was amazing Shelves: I love this book. I stayed up half the night to finish it because I couldn't put it down.

Written by a Christian writer is does preach a little but it is a great read. Sep 05, Ren rated it did not like it. I wish we could give negative stars. This was a waste of time.

from "The Princess"

Poorly written story and dialogue. No chemistry and no romance. Opposite of romance, really. I agree, love is a choice. A c I wish we could give negative stars. A choice to KEEP loving. Honestly, this book was rubbish and cringe. Dec 30, Rachel rated it really liked it. When I started this book I thought it would like reading a Melanie Dickerson book. It some what was, but not really.

I really liked the story line and that her dad was deaf, but there were some things I didn't agree with. Overall it was a really book. Jul 23, Hayley White rated it it was amazing. This is my favorite book EVER!!! It has such wonderful characters and a great message!!! Thanks for giving it to me Martha!!! This was my second time reading this book, and I'm glad that I still liked this story.

It was a cute story with a slow building romance and relationship. It made for a nice change. I liked the MCs, Nicolai and Shelby. It was nice to watch them grow as characters and in their relationship. This is a guilty pleasure book. One of the two books I own that is poorly written. Has many plot holes.

And yet I read it over and over and practically know it by heart. The premise is that the prince of a fictious country needs a bride to make the requirement of being married at 26 for the country. The minister chooses Shelby a shy red-head. WHat begins as a marriage of convenience quicky turns to one of love. Whats interesting is that in any other genre This is a guilty pleasure book. Whats interesting is that in any other genre this would be a steamy erotic novel. But this isn't the Prince has to "court his wife backwards.

Not through steamy sex but though learning about her and spending time doing things with each other. They don't have sex I think until near the end but that shrouded in mystery keeping the focus on their relationship and not steamy bedroom scenes. Is it a little cheesy? Does it have plot holes, Yes. Will I read it over and over until I die, You bet. May 23, Amanda rated it it was amazing. I must begin with honestly saying that out of all the books I've ever read, this book is still my favorite and has stuck the closest to my heart ever since the first time I read it.

Of course it is every girls fairytale to become Cinderella and marry the Prince, but what if the prince doesn't turn out to be quite as charming as you expected? Would you still trust in God to help you to be committed to a man that doesn't love you, nor are you sure you can love him either? This is the most beautiful I must begin with honestly saying that out of all the books I've ever read, this book is still my favorite and has stuck the closest to my heart ever since the first time I read it.

This is the most beautiful and heartfelt love story of commitment, faith, humbleness and true love that I have ever read. It has its fairytale aspects, but the content and treasures that are gained from reading it are so real. You definitely will come out a better person for having read it I still go back and read it again every so often because it covers so much and teaches me how to be a better person and even a better wife. There are not enough words for me to express how much I truly love this story.

So I'll just say thank you Lori Wick for listening to God's voice in writing this book and thank you GOD for giving her the will and inspiration. Be blessed Lori Wick. Parents need to know that The Princess Bride is a quirky, funny fairy tale with quite a bit of action-style violence, including a torture machine, sword fights one to the death , a death by poisoning, quicksand, fire pits, ROUSes rodents of unusual size , and giant shrieking eels that attack main characters.

But the movie's skewed humor and its storybook feel lessen some of the impact of the violent scenes. There's also drinking -- in one scene a drunken character is revived in a barrel of water -- and some kissing, as well as a bit of language "son of a bitch," "Jesus!

Goldman's book is even better -- and lots of fun to read aloud though the book's asides are more for adult readers. The motley cast of storybook characters is consistently hilarious, right down to the bit parts featuring the likes of Carol Kane and Billy Crystal as a bickering old witch and wizard, and Peter Cook as the Impressive Clergyman.

Is it sword fights? Handsome leading men and ladies? Is Buttercup a role model? What else could she have done other than wait for Wesley to rescue her? Is their relationship healthy? How do the characters in The Princess Bride demonstrate courage and perseverance? What about integrity and teamwork?
