She seemed excited by the book and there were quite a few recipes she hadn't previously heard of or thought of herself. The book itself was very well assembled, nice cover and pages. The pictures and layout are nice and the information besides the recipes is well thought out and a nice read. Book is made of nice weight gloss stock, hard cover, very well made and appears to be a quality product. Nice photos of many of the recipes are included. I gave this as a gift to my boyfriend. I enjoy frequenting a martini bar and introduced him to the drink.

He quickly discovered he enjoys martinis as well. Now, he is fully enjoying creating his own concoctions. The only issue so far is that a few of the recipes call for ingredients that neither of us are knowledgeable of. But, there are more than enough recipes that use common liquors to still make this a good purchase. It is very diverse in flavors, so there is at least one recipe for every taste. This also means many of the liquors required are only in one or two recipes. However, if they were to expand to include more for each liquor, the book would be massive and expensive. And now that we are more knowledgeable of martinis, we have been creating our own drinks with the bottles on hand. The photography and general layout is fine.

My concern is over Berk's use of "parts" in the recipes. He uses a ratio of 1 part per ounce so that means many of the recipes have ounces of alcohol in them! Cut the parts to quarter ounces and you get close to a standard ratio. Some of the recipes seem odd: Loaded with essential-to-know topics such as barware, tools, and mixing tips.

Classic cocktails and new drinks: As the mistress of mixology, the author Mittie Hellmich has the classics down for the Martini, the Bloody Mary—and the many variations such as the Dirty Martini and the Virgin Mary. I immediately ordered one and haven't needed to use google once for a delicious drink. It's so extensive and organized, it's impossible for you to not find something you want. I'm almost ashamed to say that this is my most read book, but it's so damn helpful that I'm proud of it. I haven't found recipes by Googling or library that made drinks like they were in the 50s and 60s.
