Welcome Thank you for visiting my The Foundation fundraising page! This organization is important to me because of the journey I've been on for the past 10 years. Please help me support this organization and their efforts in research and supporting our friends and family who have a form of an inflammatory bowel disease IBD. About Me Ten years ago I suddenly became ill with symptoms that were pretty terrifying. It required a few months of doctor's visits, tests, and colonoscopies before I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis. If a patient has a colectomy, and then they live with a J-pouch, but the J-pouch is constantly inflamed with pouchitis , leaving the patient just as miserable as before the colectomy If the cure causes other ailments, does it still count?
Does each medical woe need its own specific cure in order to use this word to describe the elimination of symptoms?

Look at the J-pouch example from above: A patient would have never gotten pouchitis prior to a colectomy. I could argue this topic in circles if my opponent and I have different definitions of a cure. I have argued this very topic with doctors, colorectal surgeons , and heads of very important IBD-related nonprofits because what is not taken into consideration is what a patient deems a cure. I, personally, believe that a colectomy does not eliminate all problems or solve them, which means it's not a cure.
I do strongly believe that a colectomy will greatly reduce most symptoms in the majority of patients, improving their quality of life.
