However, Joseph was still faced with the reality that Mary was carrying a child that was not his own. It must have been a very difficult situation to be in — his betrothed was pregnant, and he was not the father. He probably felt hurt, betrayed, enraged, and possibly even a bit frightened. His thoughts and feelings were likely clashing. Imagine the turmoil he must have been going through. Based solely on his own limited understanding of the situation, Joseph chose to quietly divorce Mary.

In ancient Israel and under the Law of Moses, he would have been within his rights to do so. From a moral standpoint, to Joseph, this probably appeared to be the best solution to the dilemma. Clearly, at every moment in his life, Joseph tried to do the will of God. We can ask and implore for assistance from above, but we must also listen and wait for an answer.

Teachings of Joseph F. Smith

And here is perhaps what Joseph was best at doing. From that point forward they might have even been viewed with scorn and ridicule from their neighbors and friends. But that no longer mattered to them, because both Mary and Joseph knew they were serving a greater purpose. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him. Joseph loved God, his wife and his adopted Son so much that he was willing to sacrifice everything in order to serve them. We should be thankful that God picked such a man to be a husband for Mary and a father for Jesus.

I love that St. Joseph has not a word to say in the entire New Testament. How often in our own lives do we always try to get our two cents worth in, to make sure everyone is aware of our contribution to the effort, or even to make everything somehow be about us? His deeds are his words. Over the poor His spirit will hover and will renew the faithful with His power. And He will glorify the pious on the throne of the eternal Kingdom.

40 Days and 40 Nights

He who liberates the captives, restores sight to the blind, straightens the bent Ps. And forever I will cleave to the hopeful and in His mercy… And the fruit will not be delayed for anyone. And the Lord will accomplish glorious things which have never been as He. Thou hast shed Thy Holy Spirit upon me that I may not stumble. Thou hast closed up their teeth, O God, lest they rend the soul of the poor and needy…. The wicked and fierce have stormed against me with their afflictions; they have pounded my soul all day. But Thou O my God, hast changed the tempest to a breeze; Thou hast delivered the soul of the poor one like [a bird from the net and like] prey from the mouth of lions.

Violent men have sought after my life because I have clung to Thy Covenant.

For they, an assembly of deceit, and a horde of Belial, know not that my stand is maintained by Thee, and that in Thy mercy Thou wilt save my soul since my steps proceed from Thee…They have themselves fallen in the snares which they laid for my life. But my foot remains upon level ground; apart from their assembly I will bless Thy Name. Thou hast saved me from the zeal of lying interpreters, and from the congregation of those who seek smooth things. Thou hast redeemed the soul of the poor one whom they planned to destroy by spilling his blood because he served Thee.

The hell of Abadon eternal hell , from which the Teacher was saved, is the lot of those who die an accursed death, but the Teacher was saved from it and was rather raised to everlasting spiritual height by God.

THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES

On the contrary, Allah exalted him to Himself. And Allah is Mighty, Wise. Teachers of lies have smoothed Thy people with words, and false prophets have led them astray; they perish without understanding for their works are in folly. For I am despised by them and they have no esteem for me, that Thou mayest manifest Thy might through me. They have banished me from my land like a bird from its nest; all my friends and brethren are driven far from me and hold me for a broken vessel….

Many historic records suggest that Jesus as travelled far and wide, presumably to convey his message to the Lost tribes of Israel. People of Israeli stock had dispersed in various lands and to find them he probably travelled from Jerusalem to Mosul, Tehran, Herat, Kabul, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Maree before finally settling in Kashmir.

When the Teacher was living at this place, all his friends and brethren were far from him — as expressed by him in his poem. The Teacher prophesied that the wicked will continue to be punished till eternity.

St. Joseph: Model of a Righteous Man - Catholic Stand

For according to the mysteries of Thy wisdom Thou hast ordained them for great chastisements before the eyes of all Thy creatures, that for all eternity they may serve as a Sign and a wonder, and that all men may know Thy glory and Thy tremendous power. That was because they disobeyed and used to transgress. We have a lot of love for one another and our kids. But far too often it is a place of anger, irritability and frustration.

Despite the plain teaching of the Bible, we seem to believe the lie that the anger of man can produce the righteousness of God James We felt compelled to deal with that more severely.

We long to commend the gospel to one another and to our children so we fasted, asking the Lord to forgive us and to change us. I was moved to fast for self-control. I like food.

In my case, too much food made me too sluggish to pray. I needed to gouge out an eye and cut off a hand in my battle against sin Matt. I was moved to fast for a building. For over two years our church has been praying for a building. During that time we have seen remarkable answers to prayer. God has surprised us with how much money He has directed our way. Every time we get close to getting a building our Sovereign God moves the building to slip through our hands.

I felt compelled to keep praying. Words like these from Jonathan Edwards have moved me to persist in prayer. In Old English prose, the American Puritan wrote,. I was moved to fast for prayer. For a long time I have felt like my prayer life needed deepening. I know we will always want to grow in prayer but I felt especially burdened to grow at this time. God has been giving me so many opportunities. Opportunities to lead my wife, to lead my kids, to teach, to write, to lead other pastors and to lead our growing congregation.

All of these opportunities were coming to me and I was afraid that there was no way I could deal with them faithfully without more prayer.
