Mark has won some awards for his books, he tells an authentic story of the Sierra Nevadas that makes you feel as if you're right there experiencing the beautiful landscape. Nice touch with the "out of this world" parts of his story which keeps the reader turning the pages in my case turning the Kindle Fire "pages". One person found this helpful. I was doing a search on treasure hunting related books and stumbled across this one. It looked fairly interesting and so I purchased the Kindle version.
Boy am I glad I did. I don't read as a critic, although if I see obvious errors I notice them, which I saw none in this book. There may indeed have been some, but I was so interested in the story I didn't notice them. Enjoyed this so much I thought I'd see what else this author wrote. Well that was a week ago and I've now read 7 of his books and thoroughly enjoyed every last one of them. This author and I have much in common in real life.
He even gives you his address, email, and phone number. I called and had a wonderful conversation with him, while he was out in the hills near Mt. Whitney writing more books. Books by the way that I am anxiously awaiting.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I. An exciting and informative read, "The Old Man," as Mark calls himself, weaves the story of missing treasure hunters and pirate treasure buried deep in the mountains of California. An unlikely place for pirate treasure with a deadly curse on it? Yes, but the storyteller is at his best as he weaves the many exotic plots together to make an epic page turner you won't want to put down once you get it started.
Did not finish reading book as it was predictable and didn't show much imagination. I enjoyed this book it got and held my attention from the first to the last page. I will read the rest of the series. I didn't much care for this story as it was way too unbelievable.
Please Check First:
The search by park rangers and kids for gold left there years ago by pirates who spoke "Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean talk" was too phony - or funny, whatever. It was just all too unreal for my liking. Even for a novel, it was too unbelievable. I say no thank-you to any more of this series. Well sure, I mean maybe, well no I just don't think so.
This premise, while emotionally intriguing is intellectually difficult to accept.

Granted it just may be me, I am from California and have spent time on Whitney. Mount Whitney is a great back drop. It is the tallest peak in the contiguous United States and is spectacular, it's just difficult to get to.
