Along the way we forge relationships as we work to bring our coffees from the farm to your cup. Coffee is about people and the land they live on. Two hours well spent. The mind of a 15 year old boy is a weird place to be. However, I really enjoyed the simplicity of the story line and the depths the author went to explore the conscience and reality of a male 3. What is The Underdog Advantage About?

The Outsiders is my favourite book though, so this paled in comparison. The older brother in both novels is called Steve, and is good looking and hard working. Even the supposedly mean kid is called Daryl too just like the Outsiders. Ponyboy and Cameron are very similar in their personality types too. Thus, I could not give this novel the five stars it possibly deserved as I felt like it was a cheaper rip off. Furthermore, comments about acne and scruffy hair being something that can make you less attractive or meaningful were unnecessary.

As I would never judge someone with acne, having had a cousin who has struggled with it her whole life. Comments like this make people self conscious. Dec 21, Luke rated it liked it Shelves: young-adult-middle-grade. Markus Zusak says in the introduction to the American edition that he doesn't like the series that much and would change a lot if he could redo it. It lacks the sense of direction and the subtextual deepness that he other books have.

That being said, it's still a Zusak novel, so it's still very definitely worth reading.

External disadvantage

It tells a good story, and I'm interested to find out how the story of the Wolfe brothers continues. Sep 04, Salma Saeed rated it liked it Shelves: audiobooks , english. It seems that everyone was going along just fine expet me. Jul 10, Muhammad Ahmed Siddiqui rated it it was ok Shelves: humor-comedy , series , real-fic , ya-teen , drama , australian-lit. It's a simple story about 2 brothers who are losers in life and want to make a name for themselves.

Most of this book is just a build-up to the later parts of the series. The writing is immature, everything is written like a daily routine and Markus Zusak himself said that these were his introductory days of his writing career but still I expected some Zusak-touch in this which I didn't find. Aug 12, Saw rated it it was amazing Shelves: favorite-books Just howl, Cameron. Howl your heart out I do understand this. I've felt this deep inside my heart. I was praying for Cameron all the time.

That bloody Rebecca I was standing there, waiting for someone to do something, till I realized the person I was waiting for was myself Sep 04, Heidi Burkhart rated it really liked it. Zusak in a different vein I think teen boys would relate best to this book. Many parts dealt with Cameron's dreams Aug 01, Melissa rated it really liked it.

This is his first book and the beginning of that trilogy. He and his older brother Reuben live in Australia and spend their time getting in trouble and annoying their family members. The novel feels immature in some ways. The style flips back and forth between bits that are stream-of-consciousness, dreams, reflections on the action as it happens, etc.

He has the ability to turn the simplest feelings into beautiful phrases and that is such a gift.

Cameron is emotional, just like any teenage boy; his feelings are so raw and intense. But if you already love his writing then the completists out there will want to read it. Had they worn us down? A boy. He is throwing punches wildly and moving around and blocking and swinging his arms at nothing. He keeps focused on the boy in the circle, who fights on so intensely that no one can take their eyes off him.

The guy speaks to me. An answer. He fights on, no matter how hard he hits the ground. He gets up. Some people cheer him. Others laugh now and rubbish him. Feeling comes out of me. I watch. My eyes swell, and burn. View 2 comments. May 01, Abigail the Fangirl rated it really liked it Shelves: siblings. I liked this book a lot! Some things in it I didn't really appreciate, but over all I liked it!

I love brother relationships in books, and that's what first made me pick this up at the library. May 04, Penny Poppleton rated it really liked it. Markus Zusak's first book. Bloody excellent. I want to climb inside his fiction. Mar 05, Ief Stuyvaert rated it liked it. Very good. Not as great as 'The Bookthief' ofcourse, but then, what book is?

Maybe Zusak just isn't my writer. I picked up this audiobook from my library after discovering it was barely three hours long and also after dnfing Zusak's newest release Bridge of Clay.

Get A Copy

This book was better than Bridge of Clay, in that it was logical and had some sense of direction, but the two brothers felt like they could have been ripped out of the Dunbar family in the new book. Perhaps they developed into those characters.

The narrator was dreadful and his voice for one of the brothers was Maybe Zusak just isn't my writer. The narrator was dreadful and his voice for one of the brothers was just painful. I feel like this book is Zusak's style. I honestly feel like there are two Markus Zusak's and one is the beautiful writer and storyteller of The Book Thief and the other is this mediocre trash but nobody is stepping forward to differentiate.

Honestly, it's ridiculous how there's not even a trace of a signature of his writing in TBT in this book or his new work. That is not a sign of a book worth reading and this book was supposed to rekindle my hope for his books but it looks like he's a one hit wonder for me. I'll perhaps give I Am The Messenger a try since people seem to enjoy that one too and I already own a copy, but after that I won't pick up anything else by him Nov 09, Raoofa Ibrahim rated it really liked it.

Cameron, Ruben and Steve; The Wolfe brothers. Cameron and Ruben share the same idiot thoughts, like stealing but not actually doing it, just planning.
