Let's make one regrettable thing clear from the outset - the white supremacist attitude of the lead characters in this novel was simply atrocious, going way beyond the mere casual racism familiar to the period. Which was a shame, because on this evidence Bindloss was an above average genre writer. His prose is fluent, the romance restrained, and he can write an exciting action scene, though he could have done with a few more. His novels were more commonly set in Canada, not Africa. Hopefully he avoided marring his efforts with unacceptable racial contempt in those stories.
