THE PEACOCK EMPORIUM by Jojo Moyes | Booklover Book Reviews

The ramifications of what they expect versus what actually occurs provides the excitement, but the individual personality of each girl and how they handle the disappointments or happiness in their lives is the real merit to this book. It is an exciting and brilliantly executed book and I recommend it highly. It was interesting to read an early novel,by JoJo, who is now a fantastic writer and who really pulls you into the personalities of each of her characters. In this novel of hers, I thought she tried to squeeze in too many characters, and she rarely gave us enough info to really care about them all.

Still, a very interesting premise for a book. So, after reading some of the reviews I was hesitant to get this book - but it was a Kindle Daily Deal - and I loved all the other Jo Jo Moyes book so what the heck. I thought it was a wonderful book. Now, the beginning is a little misleading, but all is forgiven because that is what lends the book an air of anticipation to see what happens. And it does start off a bit slow - skips around the different characters - but give it time - believe me, it is worth it. I rarely find a book that keeps me so engaged. I also liked that the premise was so original.

I didn't know this even was something that had happened in history so that part was also intriguing. If this is one her first books, I can see how her writing has developed but started out pretty darn good. Formas de pagamento aceitas: Habilitado Leitor de tela: Rastreie seus pedidos recentes. In addition to Suzanne and her checked family history and mystery as a backdrop, Moyes presents a charming and colourful ensemble cast that frequent the Peacock Emporium.

Peacock Emporium

Moyes descriptive passages were so vivid that it was like I was watching a movie rather than reading book. I found The Peacock Emporium such a compelling read. I did not want to put it down, nor did I want it to end.

In my opinion this is high quality womens fiction. Jojo Moyes was born in and grew up in London. After a varied career including stints as a minicab controller, typer of braille statements for blind people for NatWest, and brochure writer for Club , she did a degree at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, London University. She has written many more critically acclaimed novels since then.

Jojo lives and writes on a farm in Essex, England with her husband, journalist Charles Arthur, and their three children.

Thanks for sharing your review! Yes, if all her works are of the standard of The Peacock Emporium I think Moyes back catalogue deserves more appreciation than it appears to have received. The cultural differences interesting, and the interaction of the or so brides with the enlisted men on board fascinating. Many men English fighters, while stationed in Australia during the great war met and married--sometimes within weeks--young Australian women and then were sent back home or to other assignments leaving the brides behind. The royal navy was assigned to bring all of these brides back to England to reunite them with their husbands.

This story is about one such ship--an aircraft carrier. Most of the other ships were more like cruise lines and not so nitty gritty with the enlisted men. The central thread that unites all of the characters is a growing relationship between a quiet nurse and an honorable officer. How they hid their admiration and eventually love from each other as well as all of the other characters is the suspenseful thread throughout the book.

I loved it not for the brilliant writing, which it did not have, but for the historical interest and learning something totally new about which I had never heard. Of the main characters wives developed and followed throughout the journey not all have happy endings being reunited with their loved ones. Some are removed from the ship and returned to Australia for various reasons. It was a good read and I am happy to have read it. It was worth my time.

This is my third Jo Jo Moyes book and I've enjoyed all of them very much. This book kept my interest from start to finish. The characters are so real you believe they are friends. The war is over and ships are freed up for some. This novel has it's source in the passage from Sydney, Australia to Plymouth, UK of close to brides who are now going to meet their new husbands as many couples were newlyweds.
