I've never thought of it that way. I've always thought it was really presumptuous for people to claim they were speaking for God. That includes priests, preachers, rabbis, inmans, whatever.
When God Gets Bored
It implies a superiority that I just can't accept. Bored panda really needs to fix the arrow system on here, Cat Lady has put forward her first hand experience of doing this sort of work and her comment has been downvoted into oblivion, I'm an atheist and I don't believe that Jesus was a real man much less a man god but people should be able to put forward different viewpoints without their comments disappearing, maybe you guys could add a report button instead for people that leave troll comments. I think we all have been the victim of this. I don't care if you don't like my statement, but to down vote me into oblivion is the epitome of narrow-mindedness.
I think Catlady is wrong in her approach, but I wouldn't down vote her just because we disagree. As a fellow atheist, I agree with your point, but from what I understand, the general scholarly consensus is that there was a historical Jesus. Our God Still Speaks
Believe what you will. I have no issues or problems with that. But there is enough racism, intolerance, homophobia, and hatred sloshing through this country and administration right now - all in the name of the 'Bible' - that it's imperative to keep your faith to yourself and not attempt to impose it on those of us who actually realize the irony of professing love and tolerance while acting on everything but that.
Live your life and let us live ours. If there is a God, it will know the truth and judge accordingly. It IS based on the telling of stories through generations. Then on top of all of that it has been re-written and revised several times over. You can look that up if you'd like. I agree with you with mostly everything but all the things going on in our country isn't in the name of the Bible that's just funny, it's all in the name of our president, before him we were not dealing with as much hate and ignorance as we are now.
A book has nothing to do with the racism, hate, intolerance and homophobia in this country, that book doesn't stand in front of cameras to spread hate. You would have chosen to read and slide on by without commenting. As someone who does engage in this type of work, I would never presume to speak for God, I merely show folks what he says in the Bible, if they seem to be interested. If they're not, fine. No reason to feel hurt or rejected just because someone doesn't want to hear the information you are offering.
Everyone is and should be free to accept or reject it as they chose.
What to Do If You're Bored by the Bible
I chose to engage in this work because 1. I completely believe what I am presenting, not blindly, but having researched, compared, meditated on all aspects and using many resources. I'm trying my best to maintain love of neighbor and this work really helps with that.
