This MAID program Master of Arts in Integrated Design incorporates the essential design disciplines with the creative subjects communication design, product design, space, audiovisual and digital media.

They are brought together through rigorous fundamental training and interdisciplinary problem solving. These integrative components form the contour of the Master program. This international program focuses on the development of intercultural competences and the synergetic power of a working environment with students from various countries and cultural backgrounds. Knowledge and skills can be specialized in the Master program in the form of interdisciplinary projects. A high level of media competence is required in all semesters. The systematic approach to problems and the creative development of individual solutions are emphasized.

International designers, visiting artists and other specialists will support projects according to the topic and the professional area of specialization. Also in this Master study course we intend strong interconnections of both the disciplines and the subjects. Furthermore we support research relevant tasks and offer opportunities for cooperation with a selection of professional institutions.

MAID Blog. As part of its Integrated Design philosophy, the MAID program seeks to create an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment, which allows students not only to develop original projects while gaining insights from other design disciplines and world cultures, but also to come together and enjoy student life beyond the academy, as a family.

The curriculum is based on an interlinked structure which allows an education in essential design fields — creating comprehensive knowledge, methodic diversification and creative specialization. Throughout the course of study, product design, communication design and media design are the main fields, accompanied by supporting design disciplines. Under a principal topic progressive research and creative methods are applied to complex design projects in order to develop strategic and relevant design solutions. Based on the idea to build a bridge between our Master Intermediales Design language of instruction: German and our international Master of Integrated Design language of instruction: English we will be able to offer even more interdisciplinary studies and more interactivity between the two programs.

The Elective Module offers complementary courses to the studio class and focuses on applied and advanced technologies, experimental approaches or fundamental skills. The Expertise Module includes specialized workshops, excursions, synchronizing classes to gain further qualifications or courses offering professional competences, such as teaching and management skills etc. Design Sciences introduce scientific and theoretical discourses and reflections corresponding with the design projects.

Our program is trying to combine the design fields of graphic, communication, media and industrial design by offering projects and classes that require the students to sophistically apply previously acquired skills in one or more of these fields. Even though architecture, interior design, art and fashion design are at the far end of this list and we have always selected students also with these backgrounds.

As part of this thinking we are interested in seeing a variety of projects tackling different problems and offering different solutions. We are also looking for process rather than focussing on high-end renderings as final solutions. This includes sketches, models, and other forms of exploring your ideas.

We also must make sure that all accepted students are on a somewhat comparable level. Each student is required to jump right into the projects. Please keep in mind that your portfolio plays the biggest role in our decision making process. It should represent who you are as a designer and how you work. The school is now using uni-assist for all international applications.

An additional application directly to the university is not necesssary. Please do not send any material to the university. Also, it is necessary to send documents such diplomas as hard copies to uni-assist. Please read the information offered by uni-assist carefully. Only after the hard copies of certified copy of higher education entrance qualification ba-degree , and language certificate have been received is your application complete. In case you receive your language certificate post the application deadline, contact us so we are aware of this.

Various scholarships are offered now and then by the internationl office IO but since the number of applications by students from the entire university is high whereas the number of awarded scholarships is low, it will be difficult to obtain such a scholarship. However, you may of course apply for external scholarships for example with the DAAD. If you have received your education in English, please include a statement or a paper that shows that. Hence the immigration laws do not allow to officially apply for an internship or "holiday" semester. You may of course apply for internships nevertheless. If you are successful in finding an internship you must remain an enrolled student by re-registering and hence extend your studies for the duration of the internship.
