Aidan is about to learn a few things like -self-sacrifice and unconditional love -true friendship -there is a whole new for him at least world out there with Gods and Goddesses -he can die in his dreams and he can battle in his dreams I really enjoyed the book.

I really enjoyed reading Aidan and Leta's story, and I loved Aidan's motto that he would be the last one standing and that he wouldn't let people who hurt him win. Leta totally won me over. She has such a beautiful heart. She knew what Aidan had been through and she swore she would never ever betray him.

She kept her word and never left his side even in the worst moments. Love healed all their wounds and washed away all their pain. I was secretly rooting for Aimee and Fang to be able to have a future together. Can't wait to read their book. View all 35 comments. The only character is finely worked out is Aidan. His characterization is tiringly long-winded and repetitive. The same facts are paraphrased over and over again.

The plot is simple, the romance undeveloped, but overall it is not a bad story, and it has some great moments. What are you, the antipain fairy? I'm just desperately trying to make it to Acheron's book. But there is no Acheron here, so it was such a waste of time. This story was made of all kinds of cheese and so predictable, I literally knew what was going to happen within the first couple of chapters.

I listened to the audio, and while the narrator was okay, he did overact a bit, to the point that everything Aiden said was overdramatic, and I think that helped add to the cheese.

To put it mild This series has become so tedious to read. To put it mildly, I was bored, bored, bored. I was a raging fangirl at the beginning of the series but they are all running together and so convoluted that I don't even understand what's happening any more. View all 7 comments. Jun 17, Continuum rated it did not like it Shelves: Is it just me, or are Sherrilyn Kenyon books hit or miss?

With more misses than hits I'm afraid. And this one is a clear example of a miss. Maybe I could've enjoyed it if I hadn't read so many other Dark-Hunter books. But after so many, I just can't help but notice that it's practically the same thing. Only a few things are changed. So no, this book didn't leave me with a good feeling. The only good feeling I had was that I managed to finish it. View all 10 comments. I felt like there was something missing from this book. I liked it, but I think it could have been better.

The storytelling seemed basic--not something I'm used to with Ms. I get that this was supposed to be short story, but it was a little too barebones for me. The characters other than Aidan just didn't seem to come to life for me, which is atypical for a Sherrilyn Kenyon story. My biggest issue is the short length. I think that keeping this short really restricted the complexity of I felt like there was something missing from this book. I think that keeping this short really restricted the complexity of this story, and it really did need more depth.

I think this would have been a great novella, but it falls short of greatness as a novella, unfortunately. I could see why he was so bitter and sad. He'd been let down by people he was supposed to trust, people he'd do just about anything for. It was interesting that he was a movie star, what that entailed. I did appreciate how Ms. Kenyon wrote about the negative aspects of fame, although Aidan always had a good head on his shoulders.

If he was a real guy, he'd be a movie star I'd respect as a person. I would love to see that movie Alabaster, that he was in. It was a nice change for the heroine to be the one driven by vengeance. I liked him in The Dream Hunter. Hope he shows up again. It brought back some happy memories of reading their stories, and made me eager to read the following books in this series.

Very freaky and weird. I think every author has a book that's not so great. Unfortunately, this is probably the one I'd name for Ms. I think she's a very talented author, and I enjoy reading her books. I just needed a richer longer book for this one to shine as brightly as it could have. View all 19 comments. Jul 19, Gavin rated it liked it Shelves: This felt more like a novella rather than a full Dark-Hunter book and I think both the romance and the story suffered a bit from having less time to grow. That said, this still had plenty of the usual elements the humour, the romance, and the mythology that make the Dark-Hunter series so fun to read.

It was good, but not as good as usual. The real plus was the Christmas theme. It was a lucky coincidence that this was my read for Christmas Eve since I had no idea this was going to be a very loo This felt more like a novella rather than a full Dark-Hunter book and I think both the romance and the story suffered a bit from having less time to grow. It was a lucky coincidence that this was my read for Christmas Eve since I had no idea this was going to be a very loose Scrooge retelling!

That aspect of the story was actually quite fun. He is full of anger and determined to be left alone. Unfortunately for him his evil brother has broken out of prison and summoned the long imprisoned god of pain to kill Aiden. Leta, the Oeneri who trapped Dolor the first time, has to protect Aiden.

She has a tough job as he is determined to drive everyone away! The story was OK but nothing special. The same goes for the romance. Aiden was a little whiny to begin with but got a lot more likeable as he was wooed by Leta. The most exciting bit of the story was getting to learn more of the history of the Oeneri and getting to meet the likes of Zeus! We also ran across M'Adoc and Deimos.

Deimos is growing on me. I hope he gets his own book! Fred Berman did a great job as always. Apr 28, Ronak Gajjar rated it it was ok Shelves: I want Acheron back! It would have been better but for 2 things. The hero was a whiney bitch for almost the entire book.

Upon the Midnight Clear

It got old fast. Poor little rich boy, people were mean to him. I get they were really mean. Get over it dude. But not ALL people. Whaa-whaa-whaa Heroine was a bit of a sad sack but was a very sweet woman. She had loved her dead husband and child very much. I would have been ok with this. But when the hero stops mid sex to ask about how much This was short. But when the hero stops mid sex to ask about how much she loved her dead husband. That was just too wierd for me. I could not get past that and almost DNF'd from the stupidity of it all. But I am a stuck I. The series so I persevered.

Nov 09, Carmen rated it did not like it Recommends it for: This book is just pages of Aidan O'Connor whining and griping. If you want to read that many pages about a whiny-ass, weak-ass, pathetic excuse for a man - then more power to you.

He flicked the lid off his beer and held it up to the photos of his 'family' that he kept on his mantel next to his five Oscars. But in the end, he knew the truth. He was the only one who'd been royally screwed. He'd put his trust in all the wrong people and now This book is just pages of Aidan O'Connor whining and griping. He'd put his trust in all the wrong people and now he was left alone to deal with the devastation they'd foisted on him - because he'd dared to love them more than he'd loved himself.

Life was nothing if not pain and he was the king of it. Two years ago, he'd lived and died for those assholes on the mantel. Had given freely to them, hand over fist, wanting them to have a better life than the hell he'd known growing up. And even though he'd given all but his life to them, it hadn't been enough. They'd been deceitful and selfish. Unsatisfied with his extravagant gifts, they'd begun taking, and when he'd dared to question them about their theft, they'd gone after the only thing he'd had left. His reputation and livelihood.

Yeah, people were sick and he was tired of the Judases all around him.

There's only one line I really liked: He'd had enough knives planted in his spine to make a stegosaurus envious. That was a great line! Kenyon tries to soften the sting of this terrible novel by giving us a little "Kenyon's world Christmas" story at the end. We are allowed to peek into all our favorite characters lives and see how they are spending Christmas.

That was a nice gesture, but it doesn't make up for the time I spent reading this novel. View all 5 comments.

Upon the Midnight Clear (Dark-Hunter, book 14) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Aug 17, AJ rated it it was ok Shelves: This book felt more like a glorified novella. Our hero and heroine are both torn up over grief her — very warranted and betrayal him —just downright whiny considering what other characters of the series have had to endure , but within hours of meeting each other they are healing each other and falling in love.

While there were some swoony and steamy moments, it was essentially insta-love which, to me, felt more circumstantial than anything else. The action was good — fighting in the dream world sounds brilliant! Although it appears that when fighting in the real world you can be all kickass-action-guy while at the same time talk over family history and dramas and have huge, big, life-altering epiphanies… yes, all while fighting.

But I don't blame Kenyon for that; it felt like a publisher's decision, especially because of the very large print purposely used to bulk up the page count. So if you read it, go into it with that perspective in mind so you don't get upset with the pared down storyline. However, because it was shorter, I felt that the buildup of the relationship between the main characters was choppy. We don't really get to "feel" their emotions slowly boil up and over like we usually do.

But since I liked that she was putting her twist on "A Christmas Carol," I was willing to go with the flow. Plus the story had a warm holiday ending that made me smile. So, was it the best Kenyon has to offer? But, was it worth reading? It's a quick read. And if you're a fan of the whole Dark-Hunter series, in general, I don't think it's good to skip books because each one, no matter how you feel about the plot or characters, has something to offer that makes this fantasy world more vivid and interesting.

This is the second Dream-Hunter novel that I've read and although I am a huge fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's - I was sorely disappointed by this one. It's lacking in a lot of things. Her characters weren't developed enough for you to actually grow fond of them. Aidan was just to whiny and needy for me to like him, and Leta just never really amounted to much when it counted either. Too much happened in too short of a time period. It didn't feel very believable and it almost felt more like a chore to read rather than a delight for the mind. If nothing else, this book was used just to fill us in on some of the background information on Zeus' curse on the Oneroi.

When you see this book, it seems short for a paperback. When you open it, it seems REALLY short for a paperback - they have used double spacing, wide margins, and a large font.
