Howard Raishbrook and his two brothers run RMG News and divide LA up between them, cameras always ready to zoom in on an almost dead man being cut from his vehicle or a half-naked drive-by victim receiving CPR at the roadside. The documentary cameras piggyback on the stringers who piggyback on the emergency services, like lice on fleas on dogs. While the impulse to make a film about such people is understandable, the thigh-rubbing delight of the programme-makers here is not. But it just gets in the way of the flames getting higher or the newly widowed woman howling into the chest of her friend.
Instead of trying to understand the psychology of a person who wants to spend their nights waiting to feed on human misery, the lens is too busy pointing at the flaming wreckage or the pool of blood. He leaves empty-handed this time as the highway patrol arrives. Every visual decision makes sense, but morally this production stays in the toilet throughout.

Carter isn't perfect, but he is so tasty in his dominating personality. I enjoy how he's not domineering which is a total turn off. Imaging Carter in his fireman's outfit only turned up the heat for me. I needed a cooling down from a fire-hose. Carter is the perfect partner for Paige. Even when he messes up, he still makes it up to her. Paige still has a ways to go for trusting again in a BDSM relationship, but Carter is doing all the right things.
I recommend this story for BDSM lovers who enjoy a lighter side after the darker side has been exposed. I like this story so much I have to read the next one in this series. Nov 03, Lorraine. Hot damn Carter is a very very fine man. I really like this one, the second in this series. At first the prickly Paige comes across as a bit of a cow. But then we soon learn how frustrated and suppressed she has been for the last 3 years. How can I blame her for her snappy disposition, I can't. I actually l 4 Happy sexy stars!
I actually like her and sympathize with her. Paige is a true submissive at heart but truly fears ever handing herself over to another Dom again. That is until the delicious Carter leads her into temptation. Oh boy oh boy, this is so hot! Steamy, passionate and delicious!! Huge thanks to the Publisher and NetGalley! Really like this novella and series so far.. I just wanted more, this was way to short!

I thought the BDSM aspects were done really well, the romance and relationship was great, and the smexy times was totally hot. VERY good but short novella! Yet here I am, back again, hoping that I can find another book and author who can deliver an emotional and sexy BDSM romance. As is somewhat common, Paige has a bit of a troubled history. Her previous Dom was a controlling and abusive bastard, and although she got the strength to leave him once, the emotional scars of the relationship prevent her from moving forward with her life. One of the things that I really liked about Paige, was that despite her fears, despite not knowing Carter for long, she trusts in her instincts.
She listens to her gut and takes charge of her life back. I liked Paige, and even though at times it felt like she was rushing things with Carter, I never got the sense that she was going into situations with her eyes closed. I loved Carter, he was such a great Dom and all around guy. He had the ability to read Paige and know exactly what she needed, how far to push and when to pull back. As a man, he was funny and charming and the fact that he spent all his time texting with Paige and getting to know her outside of the lifestyle was sweet and endearing and gave their romance a little bit of sweet mixed in with the spice.
This is a shorter story about 90 pages so obviously the romance moved quickly. There were no declarations of undying love, there was no promise of marriage and a happily ever after, and I liked it. Instead it played out in a way that I thought was reasonable and well done. I might have to branch out of my comfort zone and read that one as well.
All in all I really loved this book. I thought the romance between Carter and Paige was well done, the BDSM scenes were hot and filled with believable emotion and commitment and communication. But because Carter shows up and tries to protect Paige, she gets mad. Ultimately she decides that Carter will never be like Rick and that they can really give it a go and see if a relationship will work. I have enjoyed this series so far and I look forward to reading Ian's book and discovering more about Blue Eyes. I recommend this short erotic romance story as well as book one, Double Shot, Sadie's story.

A Shot in the Dark is the second book about the Long siblings, focusing on Paige, the oldest. Paige is three years out of an abusive relationship that made her question her every thought and desire.
Her dominating, abusive ex-boyfriend took advantage of Paige and caused her to shut down her emotional and sexual desires and build a wall to block others out. But then Paige meets Carter who wants Let me start by saying that I can't wait to get my hands on the third book in this fun and sexy series.
But then Paige meets Carter who wants to help her break some of that wall down. However, the task is not an easy one because Carter also has a domineering personality. Carter has to get Paige to trust him by showing her that domineering does not equal mean and abusive. While Paige and Carter's relationship is developing we also get to see more interactions between Paige, Sadie, and Ian. These siblings are getting to know and understand each other on a deeper level.
Meanwhile, Ian's personal life has taken a turn for the worse- which I will have to wait to read about in the next book darn it! First off we have the coffee shop location with the 3 siblings, which I love, and then so far each book is so different as to what sub-genre it tackles.
It is almost like getting a variety pack of cookies. I found this book to be oddly sweet. Paige is wound up tighter than a drum and needs a way to deal with things, her preference is BDSM and pain. However after a really bad experienc You know a short story is good when you wish it would be a full length book and that is my feelings for this one.

However after a really bad experience in her past she has not been able to go that route. It takes meeting a hot stranger to get her to even think about going back. Carter was funny, so instantly smitten, large and in charge, but not in a way that scared off Paige. Even as things heated up between them he was always careful of her and her limitations and helped her get over her past.

I really like this one. But I still thoroughly enjoyed the story. This is an author I will continue to follow. I'm really looking forward to Ian's story which hopefully will include Blue Eyes.

Carter isn't one to be easily persuaded of his intentions and he has his eyes set on Paige. He comes back the next morning and tries again to get to know her. Paige is helpless to deter Carter when she sees him in a firefighter uniform making more fantasies for her.
Carter man Carter comes to the coffee house one night with some friends before they go to Maverick's. Carter manages to get a date with her. Paige is leery about getting involved with another dom because the cruel behavior her ex exhibited in the relationship. Will Carter help Paige battle her preverbal skeletons? Is Paige ready to begin a new chapter in her life by submitting herself to trust another?
I'm glad d'Abo writes full-length novels now, as these short tastes feel like they could be so much more. Negatives So numerous I am not going to waste much time on this review. The writing is sluggish. To much about nothing. The erotic scene are lacking in intensity and conection. I was tempted many times to put it on my Finish Later shelf.

Does she trust herself enough to know her limits with a new Dom. Carter shows up again and convinces her to meet him at Mavericks for a drink, which turns out to be just what Paige needs. Now Rick is back in town and she is determined not to let him or the past keep her from getting what she needs and wants from Carter. Paige is a very strong female character that knows what she wants and needs in her personal life.
She is a sub that likes a little pain with her pleasure and Carter is just the right Dom to give it to her. She has trouble trusting herself after her life with Rick. Throughout the story the inner turmoil that Paige is dealing with is evident. She has to come to terms with the fact that she has going through the motions but not really living until Carter walks into her life. Carter is a good match for Paige. He is not like Rick in anyway and has to convince her not to give up the lifestyle she desires and needs just because of one bad experience.

Carter is a firefighter and a Dom. He is exactly the kind of man that Paige needs in order to be fulfilled sexually.

Is she willing to put the past behind her to make it work or will her past come back to haunt her? I really liked this novella. Paige and Carter were both very likable characters and Carter made a great Dom. The sex scenes were well written and the book had a great plot and flow. Even though the story was short, I didn't feel that the relationship between Paige and Carter was rushed or forced. I have read several books that had BDSM aspects; some do it right, some fail miserably. Sometimes people don't see that. I look forward to Pulled Long , Ian's story.
It'll be nice to see if things work out for him and Blue Eyes. I've been rooting for them since the first book.
