A New Day For Steam Tug WATTLE

We sail down the famous Kyles of Bute and on to Dunoon. This short video captures what it was like to holiday on the Clyde Coast, when there were plenty of Clyde Steamers to still sail on during your summer holidays. Sandon Basin has been Kerne's home berth for a number of years, it was designed as a wet basin that could take the biggest liners of the day direct from the river.

QE 2 on the Mersey July We had to move from this berth some years ago when contractors took possession of the quay at North Canning as storage for the building of The Museum of Liverpool Life, sadly there is still no access allowed to this quayside. Sunny, calm and a warm 10c today at Sandon Dock. Not like winter and the last day of the year at all. No steam to do the traditional whistle blowing at midnight that all the ships in Liverpool port used to do, but we should have plenty next year so all the best for Seaport Alpha has air to blow the big triple chime air whistle that came off the old Norstar.

The detailed panning application went in today for the new Everton F C stadium at Bramley Moore Dock and it is believed that the build stage will begin soon. Kerne is berthed in the next dock at Sandon Basin and we hope to work with the club to lend some port history and animation to the water space with our historic Mersey steam tug. Our funnel colours are a good fit for Everton! Final images of the stunning stadium design we have planned for Bramley-Moore Dock. Our large historic Kerne model was in the water at Sefton Park Lake yesterday.

The first time it has been going since it was donated by the family of commercial Kerne Skipper Ron Hayes. The large "sailor made" model was built by Ron and his brother and must be in the region of 60 years old. It shows Kerne as she was in the early s with a varnished wheelhouse and black engine and boiler casing. A coot took a particular liking to the model and hopped aboard for a ride across the lake. He has done a stirling job to keep her steaming and recently had the stay tubes replaced and docked her for major hull repairs prior to the very generous donation to the trust.

The volunteers at Portsmouth have, thanks to Henry, been entrusted with a fine ship.
