It is a take on the s slasher horror genre, but it approaches it in an ingenious way.

I will not spoil it: A meta horror comedy similar to Cabin in the Woods or The Final Girls, but with yet another fresh angle as a mock-u-mentary. Predating both Cabin in the Woods and The Final Girls, BTM's fake documentary style lends to a good deal of laughs as the story turns the genre inside out. In an age where most horror films tend to bleed together!

The camera work isn't terribly 'shaky', and the break in the final quarter to a "normal" camera angle makes complete narrative sense and is a welcome change. A special note in the visuals is the sheer voluminous amount of secrets or "Easter eggs" the film has to offer. From famous horror actors to unmistakable puzzle boxes and pickup trucks, the film is jam-packed with fan service for horror lovers.

Given the mock-u-mentary style, much of the movie is sans music. Additionally, the sound-effects often have a tinny sound, however this may be an intentional choice to reflect the poor microphone quality that cheap camcorders would have. The film's sound is relatively unremarkable, but ultimately this lends to the believe-ability of the piece. Often, horrors at a run time of 90 mins are paced as set up for 30 minutes, then action for 45 minutes, a conclusion of 10 minutes and a 5 minutes credit sequence.

Few people would, at first blush, want to watch a horror movie that was set up for almost exactly 1 hour.

Behind the Mask (Michael Jackson song)

However, this is BTM's charm, in that the set-up time is not wasted. The audience is continually intrigued and amused to watch the intricate plans of the villain be crafted meticulously, eagerly awaiting the execution later. BTM takes what many movies would call a handicap and turns it into a core strength. There is not a jump scare to be found, and the audience will likely be rooting for the villain Lesley the whole way. While not scary, the film earns top marks for being exactly what it should be: While the movie may be off-putting to horror neophytes due to its genre-riffing humor inspired mainly from 80's mainstays, any horror enthusiast worth their salt will find this 'behind the scenes making-of' a delightful bit of fan service.

He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)

The eerie and slightly explained mythos, a character who can be funny yet creepy at the same time, great music, Robert Englund plays a van helping like character, there are intense horror scenes complimented by light funny moments. To make it even better, the original Freddy, Michael Myers and Jason are mentioned throughout the movie and they exist in this universe. What makes this movie great in the end is that it doesn't take itself that seriously.

You can't have good horror without a bit of humor. This is highly recommended.

Behind the Mask is a work that deconstructs and explains the Slasher films with such precision and depth that the seemingly most simple-minded films start to seem real studies on the psychology of serial killers, their motivations and their sense there. Two other songs, " Teenage Frankenstein " also from Constrictor and "Hard Rock Summer" which remained commercially unreleased until are also featured in the film. The song features the famous "ki-ki-ki ma-ma-ma" admittedly in its popular misheard version, "ch-ch-ch, ha-ha-ha" sound effect, a trademark of the Friday the 13th series.

It has been called "strangely new wave -ish" [2] and said to "perfectly enscapulate the Friday the 13th films and the era in which they came to prominence. Both versions were in fact originally recorded in the studio for the Alice Cooper a Paris TV special in during the Special Forces era, which were remixed in with crowd noise to resemble "live" recordings. A demo version of the song, with a slightly rockier and much more upbeat feel, as well as the final release version, were featured in the four-disc retrospective boxed set The Life and Crimes of Alice Cooper , which chronicles Cooper's career.

The song has been covered by some other artists.

Finnish metal band Children of Bodom recorded a version in , but it was never released, and "He's Back" has been performed live by another Finnish metal band, Lordi. A reference to the song is made in the Friday the 13th tie-in novel Friday the 13th: Hate-Kill-Repeat ; while attending a party, a character notices that the song being played is by Alice Cooper and that the premise of it involves "something about a man behind a mask". Most recently, the song was used for the credits sequence in Friday the 13th: The song is well known for its music video , which combines clips from Jason Lives with original footage featuring Cooper performing the song and Jason Voorhees played, as he is in the film, by C.

Graham menacing teenagers at a midnight showing of Jason Lives. It was directed by Jeffrey Abelson from a concept by Keith Williams.
