I laughed, enjoyed the quick pace and was a wee bit sad when it ended. However, I'm now really looking forward to what will happen next in Seashell Cove! Adored it! Murder in the Locked Library (Book Retreat Series #4) by Ellery Adams, Paperback | Barnes & Noble®

My first book by Karen Clarke, a fast paced book, easy to read, easy to get immersed in the fictional place, with the chapters flowing smoothly and pages turning quickly. I didn't like the main character Cassie at all, but the love interest Danny and hilarious Nan, and the rest of the characters more than made up for her attitude. All were just so cute. Innocent, likable characters, old best friends, new-old love, a lovely beach, beautiful warm cafe - what more can I ask for?

A light-hearted, feel good, warm story is what this book is all about with an underlying theme of loving what you do and rediscovering oneself. This book by Karen Clarke is the one which warmed my heart and made me happy reading it. It pulled me out of my reading slump and I got my mojo back. A refreshing change from my usual genre. This time we are in Seashell Cove and quite frankly I want to move there straight away, it seems to be a hive of activity.

Cassie long since left Seashell Cove but she has come back home because she needs a break from her career - well that is what she is telling anyone who asks and probably is trying to convince herself as well. To keep herself occupied Cassie decides to breathe some This is the first in a new series of books from the author Karen Clarke, who in gave us the Beachside series.

To keep herself occupied Cassie decides to breathe some new life back into her parents cafe. Trouble is Seashell Cove does not need anything different. It has everything for everyone which is why Cassie's brother has also returned and started surprisingly to settle down. Then there is Danny who remembers the girl he sat with in art classes in school, perhaps now he can see a future being painted before his very eyes. Of course Cassie's impact on Seashell Cove has some interesting and somewhat humorous outcomes.

In fact all the characters are likeable and even the disagreeable ones are quite fun in their own way! At its heart is the strength of family love for each other and respecting decisions.

I did think at one point it might not all be settled how it should be, but of course with a bit of humour even the quirkiest of families can love each other. Heartwarming and funny is sometimes all you need in a book and this is one book which will satisfy the reader! Mar 11, Eve beinguniquebooks rated it it was amazing. As Cassie settles back into life back home, she discovers it's actually possibly just what she needed despite the initial shock of all her old school school friends, Tilly and Meg along with Danby Fleetwood all being back home and playing a part in the renovation of her parents cafe.

Of which Cassie had planned to renovate for them to set their business on the global map. As she starts to rediscover life and a new path for herself including a romantic one, her old life is offered back to her but will she choose the new path over the done before one and stay with her family, friends and possible happy future? A really funny, sweet romantic book by Karen which you won't regret picking up. The characters are great and likable, with hilarious language use throughout the novel, you'll be sure to enjoy this read, especially on the beach in the summer!

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them! I seemed to have been more intrigued by thrillers and historical fiction. But I think I may have found a new favorite genre. Cozy, sweet, rom-coms are such a breath of fresh air in this crazy world we live in. The characters in this book were genuine and magnetic.

Super cute story that would make a perfect Hallmark movie. Karen Clarke Jun 24, Karen Mace rated it it was amazing Shelves: books-of-summer It always helps when you find yourself laughing at the antics of the characters from page one, and that is what I found myself doing with this book as Cassie returns home to visit her parents! Her parents are so proud of the life she has found herself in - working hard as an events planner - and are always imagining her living such a glamorous lifestyle.

The reality is not quite that good and Cassie has returned home as she's been fired and now doesn't know what she wants to do with her life. As she returns home to her childhood home, all the feelings she had for the idyllic setting return and she starts trying to help arrange events to help raise the profile of her parents cafe - even though while she has been away, they've done an amazing job in redecorating and bringing the cafe into the 21st century.

And her efforts don't exactly go to plan so her confidence takes a big hit! I loved Cassie and her family - they live life to the fullest and don't do normal! And while she is back in Seashell Cove she starts to reconnect with old school friends, Tilly, Meg and Danny. He was her schoolgirl crush and seems to be a jack of all trades as he's helped out her parents and is currently helping her nan with her garden.

And even though Cassie has recently split from city boy Adam, she is torn between the lifestyle she had that seemed to make her parents so proud, and a lifestyle of being happy and following her passions in life. This was such a fun, fresh read and I've found another fictional area that I want to move too - alongside a new fictional boyfriend in Danny!

I've not read anything from this author before BUT that will be changing as I'm looking forward to reading more from her!

Feb 25, Rachel Gilbey rated it it was amazing. What a refreshing change for a book that feature the word Cafe in the title to not be completely about food and life in the cafe! The book is really about Cassie who has returned to her home town after working in London for years, to try to set up her own events planning business, and intending to run a series of events at her parent's cafe to build up local contacts.

Given she had been working as an event planner in London, a fact her parents continually boast about, should mean that things go according to plan for Cassie but as you may have guessed from the start of that sentence, things aren't quite that simple.

I absolutely loved the variety of ideas that Cassie came up with for the cafe, and the events certainly sounded a lot of fun. Cassie is able to re-connect with old friends and feel closer to her family too, but is she truly happy? Well you will need to read to see exactly what is is Cassie should be doing with her life. One of my favourite scenes involved a comedy night, the one liners from the comedian were perfectly pitched both for the audience he was performing to, and also for my sense of humour.

They were clever but groan worthy at the same time, I loved them. The writing is fabulous and with ever book I read of Karen Clarke's she is becoming a firm favourite of mine. The setting of Seashell Cove sounded divine and I would have loved to visit for myself. This is a warm hearted, uplifting story of family, romance, and of being true to yourself and I would recommend it to anyone. Just don't expect lashings of gorgeous cake descriptions, as although there is small bit of food, as I said at the start this is not a typical cafe story, and shouldn't be read with that expectation.

The cafe does have a place to play but more of as a hub for where Cassie tries out some of her ideas. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily. View 1 comment. Feb 17, Nicola Clough rated it it was amazing.
