Born in a humble house and he carries out various professions including carpenter and typographer. In he goes to Paris, but three years pass by before he starts to dedicate himself to painting. In , he integrates in the artistic world of the Montmartre where he has his own workshop and this way he starts exhibiting in various salons in Paris. In the same year, he participates in the exhibition organized by the Solidaritat catalana at the Galeria Altarriba of Paris in favour of the deportees and prisoners who returned form Germany.

Henry James is hard enough to read in the original English, so I'm inclined to give considerable leeway to the unnamed translator of this volume, who generally tackles the author's convoluted sentences with courage and skill. Still there are enough instances where the translator seems to throw in the towel prematurely--and not a few where he or she is flat-out wrong--to dissuade me from giving this book a higher rating.

What is even less pardonable, however, is that the book is riddled throughout with typographical and production errors.
