This book is in an early revision state with most of the internal flaws and points listed by Smith pp. All other points are present Smith, pp. The book contains Dickens's errata sheet. This book was composed from the original edition with some errors corrected, and then released by Chapman and Hall at a later date, along with other matching volumes in a set called the "Original Edition" now called the "Charles Dickens Edition". This book is in very good condition. The spine is lightly faded, corners are bumped, boards are lightly scuffed, with some light foxing.

All the structural components are solid. Cloth cases provided for his usually ample volumes were poor quality, so that the collector may find Martin Chuzzlewit and David Copperfield as difficult, and Pickwick more difficult, to secure in fine original cloth than in the parts. Oxford University Press used the Charles Dickens Edition as the authoritative version of Dickens on which to base their reprint of Dickens's works. Very good condition.. Original Cloth. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the spine with a little fading, expertly re-laid and the endpapers renewed using contemporary yellow coated paper stock. The contents with some offsetting of the frontispiece and title page and with only light spotting or finger marks to the margins, are otherwise remarkably clean throughout. An attractive example, deeply uncommon in the publisher's cloth.

A very handsome copy, quite fine, and with only some mild, unobtusive evidence of age to the covers and with much, much less than the usual toning to the plates.

    Lars Kremers styles these "divorce copies" and dates their issue to The sheets in this copy have no stab-holes, indicating that they were not bound up from parts. The case binding has the same design on the boards as copies of A Tale of Two Cities with the third-state title page. It matches Kremers's description of a green diaper-grain cloth with a chain pattern stamped in blind on the boards, and the author statement "Charles Dickens" stamped in gilt.
