But, nonetheless I really enjoyed reading it, and think that you will as well! Jun 03, Tobin Elliott rated it really liked it Shelves: Gotta say, I had a fun time with this one. The title story is literally an outtake from Dracula, and, to be honest, likely the weakest of the lot.
Bram Stoker - Dracula's Guest: And Other Weird Stories
Stoker breaks out all the classic horror tropes here: None of the stories are truly terrifying. The intervening years between its publish date and now have seen to that, but the stories are absolutely well-written and enjoyable.
Stoker shows he has a deft touch with characters at times, tho Gotta say, I had a fun time with this one. Stoker shows he has a deft touch with characters at times, though I've got to say, his American guy was hilariously over the top. He's also not scared to go for the horror, as far as it goes.

Well worth the time, if you have any passing interest in reading something else from the guy that gave us the most popular and enduring vampire in the world. Jul 30, Jim Leckband rated it liked it. I did not read the novel "The Lair of the White Worm" - only the short stories. And of the short stories "Dracula's Guest" was the dud.
Feb 14, Alexander rated it it was ok. These more or less short stories, some of which are not bad, vary in quality. All of them, however, stay well below the example set by Stokers widely known "Dracula" novel. By far the longest of them, "The Lair of the White Worm" suffers from quite a number of plot holes, poorly conveyed parts of the story and unnecessary repititions. It felt like the first version you'd hand to your editor, and he'd say: If we cut at least one third of the tex These more or less short stories, some of which are not bad, vary in quality.
Dracula's Guest by Bram Stoker
If we cut at least one third of the text and you rewrite half of whatever is left, that is. The 'White Worm' ist most probably a waste of your time. Feb 09, Trina rated it really liked it Shelves: While everyone was busy reading Poe and Lovecraft these short stories have been gathering dust. Who knew Stoker had a wealth of twisted little short stories in addition to his genre-spawning novel?
I certainly didn't but I am glad I discovered them. I already plan to revisit these stories from time to time. Las historias son muy dispares: Algunas son graciosas, otras de terror, otras bastante religiosas Some great stories in this; the one about the kitten "The Squaw" is eye-squeezingly and shoulder-tensingly horrific, "The Judge's House" left me nervous about being alone in the house, and "A Gipsy Prophecy" and "A Crystal cup" were no less horrific for highly tragic.
Others, like "The Red Stockade", left me more confused than scared, but overall this is a good read.

Jan 27, PennsyLady Bev rated it really liked it. I found some short stories more interesting than others. They had elements of the supernatural , physical terror and always an unsettling aura.
Since Bram Stoker wrote a number of novels and many short stories, I'll search for more. I enjoyed this book; the only reason I didn't give it a higher rating was because one or two of the stores were just kinda blah. But the majority were very interesting and freaky: Some eerie stories in here. Oct 05, Rachel rated it did not like it. I don't really enjoy that sort of dark stuff. I didn't care to finish the book.
Loved this short story by Bram Stoker. A very tense, scary story that is well-written with a twist I should have seen coming. Jul 31, Simona rated it really liked it Shelves: May 06, Richard Cubitt rated it really liked it. Some very good tales here. Too easily dismissed as deathbed ravings.

Cerita pendek lainnya lumayan lah, tapi nggak semua kubaca Jun 24, Chris rated it really liked it. Great stories, and some especially chilling or thought-provoking, although his dialog for roughnecks and sailors always seems a bit silly.
Dracula's Guest and The Judge's House are both delightfully creepy tales. All the other short stories in the book unfortunately range from not very good to forgettable. May 17, Trine Nielsen rated it really liked it. Some of the stories was a little bit boring, otherwise really good, with a good story line. Nov 15, Rebecca Adams rated it really liked it. Dracula is one of my favorite horror books of all time, so I thought I'd give Bram Stoker's short stories a try. This collection was fantastic Some short stories are better than the others but all in all, these are quintessential gothic horror tales.
Stoker was the third of seven children. Abraham and Charlotte were members of the Clontarf Church of Ireland parish and attended the parish church St. John the Baptist located on Seafield Road West with their children, who were both baptised there. Stoker was an invalid until he started school at the age of seven — when he made a complete and astounding recovery.
Of this time, Stoker wrote, "I was naturally thoughtful, and the leisure of long illness gave opportunity for many thoughts which were fruitful according to their kind in later years. He was auditor of the College Historical Society and president of the University Philosophical Society, where his first paper was on "Sensationalism in Fiction and Society". The force of the following thunder peal throws the Englishman from the doorway experienced as "being grasped as by the hand of a giant" as another lightning bolt strikes the iron spike, destroying the tomb and the now screaming woman inside.
The Englishman's troubles are not quite over, as he painfully regains his senses from the ordeal, he is repulsed by a feeling of loathing which he connects to a warm feeling in his chest and a licking at this throat. The Englishman summons courage to peek through his eyelashes and discovers a gigantic wolf with flaming eyes is attending him. Military horsemen are the next to wake the semi-conscious man, chasing the wolf away with torches and guns.
Some horsemen return to the main party and the Englishman after the chase, reporting that they had not found 'him' and that the Englishman's animal is " a wolf - and yet not a wolf ". They also note that blood is on the ruined tomb, yet the Englishman's neck is unbloodied. Later, the Englishman finds his neck pained when a horseman comments on it. When the Englishman is taken back to his hotel by the men, he is informed that it is none other than his expectant host Dracula that has alerted his employees, the horsemen, of "dangers from snow and wolves and night" in a telegram received by the hotel during the time the Englishman was away.
