I try to keep the rigor and routine flowing with my literacy centers , but I jazz them up by adding different game ideas that students get to choose. Choice boards are great because they help students build independence. Plus, students want to have more choice during these last days of school, so they are motivated to stay under control. Another last day of school activity is to have students complete end of school year memory books. Throughout the school year, I take tons of pictures of students. Then I use a free app on my phone to get them developed without cost.
All I have to pay is shipping. I give these pictures to my students for their end of the year memory books, which I print on sturdy cardstock and use one of these to hold the book together.

I assumed the loud balloon pops would make them act crazy. On each small strip of paper, put a surprise reward the whole class can earn. I also practice what I preach! The annual event is a chance for students to come together to show their team spirit, with classrooms and clubs putting on displays and performances for the entire school , and families and locals invited to enjoy the fun festivities as well. Low pay, long hours, high expectations, difficult parents… the list goes on. We asked our Facebook followers to share the ridiculous school rules that make their lives more difficult, and oh boy, did they ever respond. A surprising number of schools require teachers to sign in at the office each morning. This can create plenty of problems. For instance, an awful lot of teachers often arrive before their administrators do. I notified the front office staff, who arranged coverage for my class.
The next day the principal announced a rule that all emergencies had to be cleared by her 24 hours in advance. Running late? Staff waiting in line were required to put the reason for their late arrival. Another teacher once walked into school with her principal an hour early. Speaking of running late, teachers at one school better be on time for their morning staff meeting. The principal watched the time on her phone and locked the door immediately when the time changed to Then she proceeded to laugh at the teachers running across campus and encouraged us to laugh and jeer at them too.
