Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed. Kahlan has at last gained the one goal she had always thought was beyond her grasp Against all odds, the ancient bonds of secret oaths, and the dark talents of men long dead, Richard has won her heart. Amid sudden and disastrous events, Richard's life is called due to satisfy those treacherous oaths. To save his life, Kahlan must forsake Richard's love and cast him into the chains of slavery, knowing there could be no sin worse than such a betrayal. Richard is determined to unlock the secrets bound in the magic of ancient oaths and to again be free.

Kahlan, alone with the terrible truth of what she has done, must set about altering the course of a world thrown into war. But even that may be easier than ever winning back the heart of the only man she will ever love. In a world as rich and real as our own, Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell stand against the ancient forces which besiege the New World-- forces so terrible that when last they threatened, they could only be withstood by sealing off the Old World from whence they came.

Now the barrier has been breached, and the New World is again beset by their evil power. War and treachery plague the world, and only Richard and Kahlan can save it from an armageddon of unimaginable savagery and destruction. I'd like to address what some people seem to think makes the series terrible. You won't notice it much in the first 3 books but as you go on you'll notice more about politics, philosophy, and..

Shawn Mendes - In My Blood

I personally love it because it is exactly how reality or at least the history of our reality works. People believe all sorts of things for no real reason. But people also have intuition and gut feeling. People willingly subjugate themselves while also greedily gobbling up whatever crumbs they can get their hands on.

I understand people don't like this because this is not a par course for fantasy.

1 Corinthians - Chapter 13 - Bible - Catholic Online

I've read enough fantasy to understand that fantasy is usually just a story with no purpose, no theme, and no message. Which is fine, quite fine. But that is not The Sword of Truth series. The Sword of Truth takes elements of humanity and history and TRUTH in order to convey a message that righteousness and justice, while not always self evident, is visible to anyone and everyone willing to use their brain.

There's anti-communism messages too but I think alot of people don't understand that it's talking about corrupted communism, what communism has almost always turned into in reality. Alot of people don't like the rape and torture. Which is quite understandable but Goodkind didn't throw that in there because he's a sadist.

The story is an allusion to reality and since fantasy of this nature harkens back to a medieval era it's GOING to include alot of rape and torture. That was beyond common before the renaissance and was the main way many governments and religious institutions remained in power. And men and women and relations between them were viewed differently until very recently in history.
